Cufflinks

Whats this story with them cufflinks? I have never worn them and most of my shirts have buttons that close the sleeves. I was under the impression that very expensive shirts might employ these. Whats the low down? They seem pretty cool.

I wear cufflinks everyday at work. You need to have double cuff (also known as French cuff) shirts. They suit my antique / vintage fetish. I think that they look very stylish as well. I've paid up to $500 for an antique gold set but most are around $10 a set.

I got a pair as a wedding gift from my wife. I don't wear a french cuff very often but when I do it's nice to be able to look down and have some wedding memories right on my cuff!

I have only one set that have the matching studs (basic black onyx) and I wear them with my only shirt that has french cuffs, my Tux. I don't really like the look of many of them I've seen, but I like how they can show a little individuality. I'm sure there are some I would like.

I tend to wear either a polo shirt or a dress shirt. most of mty dress shirts ahve French cuffs as i love cuff links. My collection is about 60 strong at this stage and i received an awesome set of 60's or 70's links for Christmas.
They were procuced for/by Repco which is an automotive parts supplier here in AUS and are in the shape of clutch plates.

I find cuff links really finish off dress shirts/business and shirts and sadly, any sort of personal flair or fashion you may have can be stiffled by the fact you need to dress professionally. i.e. i need to make sure you cant see my tattoo's through my dress shirts

Cuff links allow me to show a little bit of who i am.

Personal favourites are:
French glass links my mother bought for me while OS - streaked blue, green and sliver glass beads with gold latch
Expensive

My South Sydney Rabbitoh's links - Polished Silver Rabbitohs "Rabbit Logo"
Moderate

BMW Motorsport Tri Colour links
Very, very, "ebay" cheap.

I love the Repco ones, but i'm not sure i'll ever wear them...

So as you can see above, i have links from all price ranges and it's not the price that dicates how much i like them.

In short, the deal is, they're awesome!

I have a few shirts that have normal cuffs, but with an extra hole on the button side. Thus it doubles as French cuff. Get some of those and a couple of pairs of cuff links! Then you can do both.

I only have one pair, but they're awfully nice :biggrin1:

I've recently picked up 30 or so pairs of silk knots. I like those when I'm desk bound for the day. They are light and don't bang around on the desk or keyboard. And they allow you to add some color pop

bout half of my shirts are french cuff. allows me to be a snappy dresser without a tie, which is awesome. plus its nice to have things that predate buttons.

similarly, fallfront trousers are great because they predate zippers.

IMHO, I think these are slick and add a touch of class. We just bought our son his first Fench Cuff shirt this year for Chirstmas. He's 20, and is going to be out in the real world soon ~ so why not send him out looking cool ! His shirt is Egyptian Cotton & and was reasonble $45. Also, on ebay I found his NFL team's cufflinks. Think we might get them for his B-Day

My wife also got me a French Cuff shirt & for $125.

Now I gotta get our son into wet shaving..........:thumbup1:

Cufflinks are an elegant accessory but, let's face it, they are a nuisance when working at a desk. You tend to take them off and roll up your sleeves. You stuff the links into your breast pocket, and then you end up fishing them out from the depths of the laundry hamper...

French cuff shirts do not have to be expensive, Paul Fredericks normally runs a 3/$99 100% cotton deal and LandsEnd usually sells the individually for about $33 each. I normally get my initials above the fold on the left cuff for $5 - $8 additional. As for my cuff links, aside from the 2 sets my family purchased as gifts, I generally search flea markets and antique/thrift shops for sets from the 50's, 60's and 70's and pay no more than $10 a set.

Some of you guys must have tried big cuff links. I'm desk and computer bound most of the day and have worn cufflinks for years and haven't had problems with them banging into things except with one largish pair I got from my dad.

I like wearing a french cuff shirt and my choice of cufflinks are the ones that once belonged to my dad. Priceless for me.
