I watched a youtube video that was a 1930s movie about weapons training for the L.A. police Dept. It was interesting and very informative. When showing the police detectives drawing their pistols from their crossdraw holsters, the narrator made mention that a crossdraw holster reduced the chance of shooting yourself when drawing because the barrel was naturally pointed away from the body.
