Cross Country Skiing

I am interested in getting cross country skis (and all the other stuff that come along with it) for me, the wife, and the kids. I am sure the tech has changed in the decades since I last skied.

Any suggestions for starter gear (or stuff to stay away from)? I don't mind spending money for quality stuff, but let's not go crazy...

there are a couple of places with groomed trails around, but I imagine most of the time we'll spend skiing wont be on groomed snow.

For the experienced skiers, what equipment do you use? Where do you ski?

You should go to a shop that specializes in XC gear and see what they have at different price points. This way it ensures you are getting proper gear for the conditions you will ski on. I XC a ton, but I skate, not traditional nordic. It's super fast and fun but its always on groomed trails. Dont know if that kind of skiing is available to you?
