'Crock Award' Nominations

Today I called AT&T to change the account into my name. I've left it and several other accounts joint in my name and my husbands. I was told I can change the account holder over the phone but they will need to disconnect my DSL for up to two weeks and then reconnect it in my name. Of course there is a charge for connecting DSL again. What a crock!

I nominate AT&T for a 'Crock Award'.

I nominate the post office here, because the online tracking for the package you sent me says it was delivered on Saturday. Since it was my work address, and no one works on Saturday, they hold all of our weekend deliveries until the courier picks them up Monday morning. I checked with our mail guy...no package. I go to the post office and ask if there are any packages for our address, and show them my work ID. Nope, no package...now I have to take the tracking info with me and fight it out with them, while they tell me that "delivered" means it left the post office, when it clearly hasn't...she checked multiple times, but they have no idea where it is...*sigh*...morons...I WANT MY SCS STUFF!!! lol...

I used to technical support for ATT DSL. It's as simple as 5 minutes spent entering data into a data base, a couple of hours for a few other departments to do the same. I think it should be illegal for them to force charges for transferring an internet account.

It's a crooked crock.

The postal service should get the Steaming Cow Pie :9898: award.

I had the same problem with Verizon ... I took over paying the bill when my father passed away, but kept the same number.

After 15 years, I wanted to change the name on the bill to my own ... they said "Sure, no problem." But the bill continues to show my father's name on some pages, and my name on others.

When I call to discuss the problem, they always ask "Are you authorized to discuss this account?" Well of course I am ... I've been paying it for the last two decades. Then they tell me I can't have my father's name removed from the bill without his written permission ... even though he's been deceased for 20 years. They tell me that they would accept a death certificate and a court order to change the names, but that would involve so much time and effort and paperwork and expense that it hardly seems worth it.

When I confront them about this, they tell me that the only way to get my father's name cleared off and my name put on is to disconnect this account, and start all over again with a new phone number. I certainly don't want to do that.

I finally solved the problem by switching over to Comcast for both my landline (ported over my original Verizon number) and ISP. Not only do I get everything correct on the bill, but my quality of service is much higher in all regards.

That is a "Crock". I'll call the PO tomorrow if you think it will help? I woner if any of the USPS employees receive their paychecks by mail?

THanks Sue...I got the package...I had to MAKE them look for it, but eventually they found it. By the way..."Bleached Wood"? AWESOME! Can't wait to shave with it! The Savory Rose is great as well...I just tried the splash on my freshly washed face, and I can still feel the tingle 20 minutes later. It's two of my favorite things in one...rose and menthol.:thumbup::thumbup:

Are you able to bail on the contract?

If so maybe it's time to switch internet providers... After all when you're a paying customer, if you get crap, the prover can expect to receive a little bit of it back .

Certainly a crock. Unfortunately I have yet to not be dickered in some fashion by any phone/internet provider I've been with. It seems that if there is an exploitable loophole or staggering amounts of bureaucratic BS they can throw your way, they do it. Case in point, my grandfather, whose phone bill comes in the name of his grandfather, who died in 1964. Same thing, they want a death certificate and an act of congress to get the number changed, or to just get a new number. My grandfather doesn't care, they had the same name (different middle initial).

+1.......I'd tell AT&T that if it takes 'em 2 weeks to do something that simple, I'll be seeing how quick Comcast can accommodate me.

Their are so many different organizations that deserve this award its staggering.

IRS
USPS
FedEx

Just to name a few.

The IRS is fun isn't it? Never the same answer twice but they are civil on the phone now.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the ever popular death certificate ploy. I am adding Charter Communications, my cable TV provider, as a Crock nominee and a bank.

I called Charter several months ago to change plans. The CSR asked for the last four digits of the social on the account. I gave my husbands, they asked to talk to him; he's deceased I told her. We can't change anything without his permission, I need to talk to him....umm, he's dead. Guess she didn't know what deceased meant.

My son took a copy of the death certificate and the invoice to the Charter office. They wanted to talk to me because they weren't sure he was authorized to make any changes on the account.

Do you think I just found this bill and a death certificate with the same last name and decided to waste an hour of my time at Charter? They still wouldn't change the account. I ended up asking someone I know who works there to switch it for me.

I also have to add an unnamed bank. Somewhat same scenario. I needed to make some financial changes and called. Oh no, we can't do that, it is your husband account. Yes, I can-- it is in the name of our Trust and I am now the sole Grantor. They stuck their feet in the sand and I ended up involving my attorney to settle that one.

The DMV was about as bad with the proving your name stuff. We re-registered a car in my wife and my name and the title had me as a junior with a full middle name. All my ID has either a middle initial & with jr or full name and no jr. I finally produced a credit card with both, but was thinking the same thing...do you think my wife found some random other guy with a REALLY similar name and taught him to do my exact signature that's on the title to transfer the car your state for some illegal act??

Institutions are always only as good as the folks willing to help you get things done.
