Critique My Contest Entry?

After three months of medical issues I'm finally getting motivated to start doing videos again. Howcast is sponsoring a contest for creative "how-to" videos of under three minutes(!), so to get my creative juices flowing again I've made a video about how to get a better shave. Take a look at it here. Comments or suggestions before I submit it? Please note that I've lowered the resolution to 320x240 for bandwidth considerations. The contest submission will be at 640x480. Many thanks!

That's a good video! I know there's a lot to say in 3 mins, to me it cuts a bit quickly but you've done good considering the time! I would maybe include your youtube link at the end.

I can proudly say that your videos are what got me started wetshaving :)

i was in finland and a guy noticed my ingrown hairs, told me to wetshave, gave me cream and soap and odly enough a canadian made gillette tech"im canadian" and told me to watch these videos,

i think its great,

I really enjoyed your 3 min. video. Honestly, there is nothing that stood out as something I would change, but I am no expert on these matters.

I will say that I inadvertently provided a soundtrack -- I had Brand X playing on Pandora in the background, and I was thinking it was part of the video until I realized what was going on. So, perhaps a little hot electric jazz guitar (or the music of your choice) would work?

Thanks for giving us a chance to see it in advance, and good luck!

Glad to hear you're doing better! Video looks great, entertaining and informative without being overbearing. I really didn't find anything to mention... I'll give it another look tomorrow when it's not 1am and I'm not half way in bed. Again, welcome back!

Great job, Mantic! I also learned much of what I know about shaving from your videos. It's great you're getting the word out to so many that shaving doesn't have to be a chore. Keep up the great work.

like the video mantic as i do with the others you have made.

not one for making videos myself but a thought or two for those of use who leave sound really low or have no sound, emphasize a few of the important bits of info. such as "hot/warm" on screen when showing towel for face prep, and some kind of gray fade out or "x" on the disposable razor to visually show it is not recommended. just a couple of thoughts though they hardly seem important.

Great video! Perhaps it is the resolution, but I thoght that the DE blade looked like it had blotches on it.

Any thought of adding a pretty straignt to the mix?

Rewatching the video this morning, my initial reaction to the DE blade was "rusty," then "old." I believe it's a product of the resolution, but perhaps a different image... maybe a Feather? Says "new, cool, sharp" in my mind

Two things jumped at me, and only after viewing the video several times. The shot of the M-3 with the red curtain background (about 2:04) looks to be quite a bit out of focus, maybe it's a resolution issue as mentioned by others.
Second, maybe you could show a little brush work. I'm not sure where you could squeeze it in. Possibly when you mention to use a traditional soap and brush, instead of the soap and brush sitting on the counter you could have a shot of working the brush and lather on your face.
Over all, very good video. I'm impressed that you could fit that much info into the three minute limit. Keep up the good work!

+1

You can send several messages at once by showing the right way to do it visually, with sub-titles advising what NOT to do.

Or, you could make use of split-screen visuals, showing the wrong way on the left, and the right way on the right.

BTW, have you heard any news about the Mythbusters project?

Both are good ideas! I've added them.

Sure enough, part of the M3 bit was out of focus; I've edited it out, thanks!

Unfortunately there's just no time to show brushwork (believe me, I tried).

I'm adding some additional lower-third messages, good idea, thanks.

Nope, never did hear anything from Mythbusters.
