Criminals in the area?

I am suspicious that there is a criminal in the neighborhood tonight. To make a long story short, the police came down the street and stopped in front of my neighbors house about an hour ago. The police looked at their cars and stayed for about 10-15 minutes, never leaving the vehicle. Fast forward to about 10 minutes ago. That same neighbor's backyard motion sensor light flicked on. It's very well possible a possum or raccoon could have triggered the light rummaging for food. Should I bother contacting the police regarding the light?

The first thing you need to do is procure a very large speaker. Preferably one that is designed to play a bass guitar. The second thing you should pick up is a crisp, clear audiofile of a shotgun being cocked and blasted about 6 times. Combine the two with the stereo system of your choice, point out the window and press play. Be sure your lights are out, and close the window when you're finished. Report back later.

You could do that, and I think it would be considerably more fun, but the penalties for discharging a weapon in a neighborhood would be considerably higher than blasting a speaker.

I'd say yeah, in case the goon's been lying doggo waiting for the police to leave...

I was thinking similarly that maybe the person was just wandering around waiting for the heat to die down. Of course, maybe it was the police shining a light in their backyard from the alleyway and not a motion-sensor light. The area is not prone to much crime. At most, a house in the neighborhood will get burglarized once every 10 years and the people are only after computers and wallets/credit cards.

I would love to have a shotgun in the house, but it won't happen. The speaker idea is nice, but the police would likely then ticket me for disturbing the peace or having music on too loud. As it stands I carry a formidable weapon (4 D-cell Maglight). That thing can crush a skull without any problems.

That's why I suggest keep your lights out and shut the window when you're through. :) Toss a cloth on the speaker and put a bowl of flowers on top. They'll be none the wiser. :thumbup1:

Why, isn't it your right as an American to bear Arms??? :D I'd love to use that as an excuse.... over here your criminalised if you even suggest you'd enjoying shooting... the looks you get are really odd.... oh and my cousin (vegetarian) wants to try clay shooting, and one of her veggie work mates asked, are you allowed to, don't you think it's cruel shooting pigeons, she thought clay pigeons were a breed.............:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Grew up and still live in this dump........

The place is a whole of nannying liberals who blame everything on everyone else except themselves.... the "it was the conservatives fault" excuse is wearing a bit thin, a bit like blaming the auto industry problems in the US on the Brits during the war of independance.......

Read some of the articles here:

Makes you wonder, a bit like the guy who got fined for blowing his nose while parked in traffic.... hand brake on and in neutral....... daft huh.

That's insane. I hadn't heard of either of those. To be honest must of the nannying I have heard of has put me off ever moving to the UK. Do you think it'll ever change?

Oh yeah. I want to be his neighbor!

I'm in the middle of Theodore Dalyrimple's Life at the Bottom: The Worldview of the Underclass, which is an examination of British social policy as it applies to the poor. You do indeed live in a nanny state, you poor fellow. My sympathies.

Criminal activity?
Wait, I got this one...
