Criminal theft...

Wouldn't a Simpsons and Kent be branded in some way?
Not sure many are into old ratty brushes unless the handle shape really dazzled them.
Glad you are happy with them!

That's a Kent British army brush and a Simpson emperor. Decals often don't survive. Sometimes the made in england etching does, but not always.

I'm guessing because with no names on them one would have to be a pretty dedicated brush collector to recognize them for what they are.......

I’ve been watching a bit and it’s summer. There’s LOADS I missed too. A couple almost new vintage scotch Simpson brushes went for 60-80$ that I was second highest on. And some of the other hone guys have gotten big BIN scores they beat me to.

I just won a Vulfix 2236 silvertip for $45. Only one other bidder. $139 cost new. Thought there would be more bidders. Sometimes you just get lucky.
Seems like whenever I think, "no point in bidding, it will go for more than I can pay" it sells for the opening bid or close to it!:glare:

I was “watching” that one but I already have a Vulfix super set aside in my sell box. I shouldn’t be buying more. Key word being shouldn’t. Nice grab though.

Thanks. I’m not really into brushes but I started using creams and was looking for a suitable brush and luckily this came up at the right time. I’ve always used large boars and am looking forward to something different.

I think you’re going to find that Silvertip brush luxurious as hell.

So this lot of brushes arrived, along with another lot I got for about $16 shipped.

From the other lot...

A Dubl Duck #4 - Appears unused. Not really my kind of brush handle, more of a bowl latherer, in my opinion, but price on them has been climbing, I suspect as people look for cheaper alternatives to the Rubberset #3 and 4's. I figured I'd grab one for my collection, and if they start selling in the $50-$100 range the way the Rubberset's did, maybe convince myself to part with it.

A NIB EverReady. Turned out to be a 650, which is a nice little handle. Similar to the lower end everReady's in shape, but is solid, (turned?) plastic. Like the 750 (a handle I really like, one of my go-to's for vintage butterscotch reknotting)... doesn't appear to be Bakelite though, it isn't discolored at all.

A NIB Erskine. Nice brush. Your standard boar knot from the era, but in a fairly in demand color (marbled green). Should resell for more than I paid for the whole lot.

Kind of a surprise in the "St. Regis" Looks like your typical hollow plastic shell filled with plaster (the kind that the bottoms fall out of and they crack), but definitely a higher quality version. Feels thicker-walled and heftier in general. Knot was in great shape, but doesn't strike me as special. Reminds me of the old TGN knots in quality and density. Pretty nice handle though, with the deeply struck lettering and banding. Nice little brush all told.

From this Lot:

The unknown Butterscotch I believe I was right, most likely a Culmak, but no identifying marks other than the shape resembling a Culmak. Knot appears to be a mixed hair knot, and was, at one point very nice, I'm sure. Dense, good loft, and a generous diameter for a brush this size (22mm). Sadly, it had seen better days... The hairs were brittle and snapping off like crazy when I washed it. I conditioned it and I'll still try it out and see if it survived usable, but the knot is pretty chewed up now.

The Kent is a nice pure boar. I have a slightly more recent example already. This one has lighter colored bristles and a shorter loft. Will be interesting to see how they compare to each other in use.

The Simpson is a beauty. Handle was badly abused, but knot, other than losing a half dozen hair tips to breakage during wash, and being INSANELY dirty pre-wash, is in great shape. Washed up nice and dense and has a pretty bloom. 24mm+ knot. The shadow from the Simpson sticker is there. Making it I believe an Emperor 5... which I didn't even know existed... and which would be a ballpark $300 brush I would guess, at todays prices. Not bad for a $6.19 bid.
