Creme de la Creme of Creams?

early in my wetshaving journey i gravitated to soaps (not sure why). pretty soon i had filled a drawer with all different types and flavors. after going through the rotation time and time again, i have come to realize that function is the absolute trump card. meaning, a great fragrance is nice but what really matters is how the lather performs its intended task. knowing what i know now, Tabac and MWF would be my first choices, and if a gun was at my head i would pick Tabac even though i am not fond of the smell (i am really grateful to whoever it was here that talked me into trying it).

i'm curious what the general consensus might point to as far as the very top performing creams? i would say, based on limited experience, that proraso is a good candidate. palmolive is nice for nostalgia and smell, not so much for performance. speick is pretty good but not in the proraso class.

what else?

Tops for me are:

Truefitt & Hill (any scent)
Trumper's coconut oil cream

Penhaligon's and Floris are nice too but on the expensive side

With respect to my "creme de la creme",absolutely best creams,I can't single out just one. I have 3 or 4 of them. 1)Castle Forbes Lime(or Lavender). 2) XPEC (Italian cream, very $$), 3)Acqua di Parma, (I might also include Spencer Devon and Trumpers Coconut)

If you love Tabac soap, try Tabac cream. The performance is all there, and the smell is similar, but not identical, to the soap.

For me, the best creams are all discontinued. These would be C&E Sweet Almond Oil, The Body Shop Original Formula in the beige tub, and Proraso Red with wheatgerm. In that order. What little stockpile I have of these products gets used very sparingly, since they can't be replaced.

I'm not sure why manufacturers insist on getting rid of (or reformulating) their best products, but it seems to be a recurring pattern. Not just in shaving software, but in a lot of other industries as well.

Castle Forbes Lime & Lavendure and T& H unscented comfort shave

i left out nancy boy. fabulous stuff, but goes bad waiting in rotation. also CF. i like the smell but to me not in the proraso class, especially for the price.

i did not realize that tabac made a cream.

lots of good suggestions here. i will pick a couple of the often mentioned to audition.

I counted more than a dozen! Do we then conclude that anything mentioned in this thread is top notch?

The IColoniali Mango I have is more of a soap then a cream, very hard intact... is rhubarb the same?

Hi Daryl,

Ihve both the I Coloniali Mango and the Rhubarb. They're completely different to me. The Mango is a hard soap,as you say,but the Rhubarb comes in a silver metal tube and is a luxurious, thick cream. And the scent is VERY nice, however, it is quite hard to describe,
