Creed Original Vetiver = WIN

Just got a terrific deal on a 4 oz bottle of Original Vetiver ($127) and it's the real juice. Bought it from a reputable guy here in CT who has an immense fragrance shop. All the hallmarks of genuine Creed are there, including specific details in the cap and the bottle.

Having never tried any Creeds before, and not even really knowing much about vetiver, I didn't know what to expect. But I have to say, WOW. This is nice.

It's very fresh, a little sweet, vaguely floral, but mostly green, green, green smelling. Quite linear and simple. I imagine that's the idea, it being a grassy fragrance, but I had no idea this was so light and clean.

It's very light . . . like skin-hugging after only five minutes. But I applied just one spritz, and I get the impression from what I've read about Creed that this evanescence is typical of their fragrances.

Anyone else like Original Vetiver? It seems to me this stuff is a great summer/autumn scent. I'm surprised I haven't read/heard more about it! Possibly an underrated Creed?

Your take.

It gets plenty of love here. I have 8 Vetivers and it's one of my favorites. I particularly like the Creed Vetiver over the Original Vetiver, seems to have a touch of lavender scent that is amazing:thumbup:

That is a good deal though for that price.

That is one the "newer" Creeds and it has a pretty strong following.
Some of the noses I respect the most at Basenotes really like it a lot.
I'm quite sure it is one of their best sellers.

I've my vetiver fix covered right now with the Creed 1948 V and Guerlain V.

If you love it, you should be aware Creed supports that one with deo, shower hair and body wash, bar soap and shaving soap. (But bring money!) Users in here of the Creed Green Irish Tweed shaving soap seem pretty high on it's quality. I've used a couple of their bar soaps in the past and their quality is first rate (as it BETTER be at those prices).

I tried Creed Original Vetiver for the first time on the first day of spring. I had no idea how green it would be. It was beautiful, sunny and warm outside, and that fragrance felt so appropriate for that day!

this was the 1st creed I splurged for.
It can be worn year round, but it's appeal to me is seasonal, right now being one of my favorite times to wear it (early spring).
It's very fresh for a vetiver scent, and very different from most vetivers...

...See, whereas almost all other vetiver scents use only the vetiver root oil, which has a very dark/earthy smell....
....Original Vetiver and vetiver 1948, both by creed, maintain a fresh profile by using an infusion of the aerial part of the vetiver plant, the "Blade", or "leaf" if you will.
The 1948 version is the more natural of the 2, but I prefer the vibrant grassy/citric freshness and carefree attitude of the newer juice, hence my avatar.

Good buy featherweight.:thumbup1:

Yeah you're right, I read a little about vetiver and was surprised by the deliberate choice by Creed to draw the fragrance from the leaf rather than the root - I wonder if young Erwin had anything to do with that idea? He's credited on Basenotes as one of the perfumers. I would think his dad would prefer the more traditional stuff, and this has a very youthful, fresh smell.

I have to say that this is very linear though. There is one thing that sort of occurs halfway to drydown - I get this slightly woody, musky evolution that quickly passes, leaving something much more akin to the initial bright burst in its wake.

As I said before, I checked my bottle out pretty thoroughly and it's up to snuff. But I DO have one question, the answer for which is not on the net, and it requires measuring tape -

What are the proper dimensions of a Creed 4 oz bottle? Can anyone do a quick measure-up of theirs and let me know?

Are there any ebay vendors that you guys recommend?
I'd say stick with the top-rated sellers (indicated by the gold medal icon), highest as possible feedback score and check that their write says it's 100% authentic. Those will most likely be your safest bets.

Responsiveness is generally a good indication :001_rolle

If you happen to live in CT, Perfume Palace in the Waterbury Brass Mill mall has a 4 oz Creed left - he's legit and it's half price.

I got a sample of this recently, and IMO this stuff blows Guerlain's Vetiver out of the water. Lighter, fresher, and at the same time equally masculine. If it didn't last two hours on me, this would most definitely be a top scent for me.

On the other hand, I'd be happy if Creed made a scented candle in this scent-I want my room to smell this this.

You are correct, I bought a bottle of the Guerlain Vetiver and did not like it at all, too sweet/artificial. The Creed version is absolutely fantastic!!

FYI...Creed just came out with the shave soap version. :001_tt1: If I didn't just buy a $100 Joris Thuja wood bowl with soap, I would definately buy the shave soap with the less than average quality wooden bowl.

I found that spraying it on my shirt made it stick around all day. But yeah, on skin it's like maybe two/three hours tops.
