Creed Aventus- Whoa

Threw in the towel after reading some threads at Basenotes and got the small bottle of Creed Aventus. Looks like a big bottle may have been a better choice.

I don't how they did it, but women love this on me. Several other Basenoters making similar comments.

But now, here's where it gets weird. I don't really like it that much. Actually, it seems so light on me, there's nothing to love or hate. But it appears to present itself to others...a real puzzler for me. Another guy had the same experience.

I find it very "cologne-ish" overall. Quite light. YMMV. It opens with a huge blast of fruits- very pronounced pineapple, tempered with apple and a bit of black current.

But those opening notes are pretty fleeting. Wearing it today- about an hour or so in and I sense...well, very little. I've seen the notes profile and there's theoretically a lot of things there. Birch, roses, oak moss. Evidently blended subtle enough that none really dominate. Frustrating, but if women love it., count me in. Maybe its like one of those whistles that only dogs can hear....

I think too it would probably be a good hot weather scent and it's pretty temperate here now.

I'd love hear from some others who sample it. Unique scent for sure. Women may like it for it's fresh, modern, contemporary feel. Kind of in the same Creed vein as SMW or VIW. Not a heavy manly scent (but it is not girly).

I know Dullah is not a fan, and he can break down all the notes.

I wouldn't tell anyone rush out and buy it. But if it sounds interesting, sample for sure. If this sells well- and I think it will - P Diddy or someone will knocking it off by Christmas.

BTW, I don't begrudge Creed for trying to find marketing hooks to spin, but all the "inspired by Napoleon" is just that- a hook. But between this and Windsor, Creed is getting fairly interesting to me with their new releases.

Dude, you're like 4 months too late. I just got engaged.

The magic chick-magnet? I'd given up my lifelong quest and settled on a nice girl and now you tell me it's been uncovered. I think I'm going to curl up in a ball in the corner and cry myself to sleep.

LOL. I'm sure it will wear off soon enough. If it does become popular, every lounge lizard from Maine to California will be wearing some knock off of it.

The guy who convinced me to buy it said it had a very "nice" effect on his wife.

I know. That was my weekly desperate attempt at comedy.

I will probably get a sample of it, though. Thanks for the review.

My experience is similar to yours. I received a sample from NM and decided to wear it today.

I thought I had put too much on because the initial scent was quite strong. I asked SWMBO if I smelled OK as I walked out the door 15 minutes later and she had to get real close :wink2: to even detect its scent. She thought it was "pleasant".

I do like the scent, but it's almost too light? Don't know if I'll buy any.

Well, I think the drydown is very promising, and if Creed pairs a stronger version of this drydown with other mid and heart notes (looking at green valley), they'd have an excellent scent.

My main critique is the utter rubbery plasticity of the florals and the designer-quality topnotes. Sure, the construction of currant/Jasmine keeps the impression of pineapple alive thru the scent, and that's very good slight of hand, but the quality of the notes used in that slight of hand isn't....well...... it doesn't smell like something that costs $280/120ml. Something that Maybe Cerruti or Hollister would put out.....until the drydown which is nice. But I'll reiterate, the Aventus' drydown has potential for anchoring many high quality masculine scents, just as the "Millesime base" anchored what are likely the greatest scents released in the 1990's.

$280 for 120ml???

LOL!!!!!

For some reason NM sent me a tester vial of this a few weeks ago. I've worn it a few times. I quite like it, my wife quite likes it but there are some issues with the drydown on me. I think that some oakmoss scents smell bad on me. Not all of them do though - Eucris works very well. Glad to have tried it but I won't be buying it.

Yeah, the drydown is a little weird. Not necessarily in a bad way; it's hard to put into words at the moment, but there was just something there that didn't seem to match up with the opening, if that makes any sense. Not a bad scent by any stretch of the imagination, but there are other Creeds I greatly prefer.
