creating a menthol soap

Hi,

I just bought some pure glycerin soaps. They are unscented and I was wondering if anyone knew some good ingredients to add for a nice menthol soap. I was also thinking of creating an almond soap as well...would i just add some almond extract?? I'm sure this has been discussed before but any info would be appreciated. Thank you!

I purchase menthol drops from the shaveden.com. You can add some essential oil (peppermint, lavender, etc...) that can be purchased at a Whole Foods store.

Purchase some menthol crystals. There are plenty of websites which have them at excellent prices. Pick an essential oil (lavender, peppermint, and rosemary all go very well with menthol) and mix a few drops with a menthol crystal or two. The essential oil will dissolve the menthol crystal. Add this mixture to your melted glycerin soap. I would start out small with the menthol crystals and essential oil, especially if you have never done this before.

As for the almond soap, you need almond fragrance oil. There used to be an almond essential oil, but I do not believe it exists anymore (at least I cannot find it). Mix the almond fragrance oil with your melted glycerin soap.

EDIT: Do not use almond extract, unless you want to bake me a nice almond cake

Options are menthol crystals, or peppermint EO.

The peppermint EO is widely available and easy to use, but it doesn't create as much cooling as the crystals.

reviving an old thread -

But -

if the weight of the soap pick is about 120 grams, a couple of crystals with EO (like tea tree) would be enough??

The crystals are pretty small - but they are potent?

Correct. They are really potent. Plus you can always add more, but it's hard to subtract. (Having a scale that can calculate in grams might be handy, as you won't need more than a few grams.)
