Creams with cushion. Plus, Godrej and straight razors.

As I'm still getting accustomed to straight razor shaving, I'm in love with any product that provides excellent cushion. Tabac, TOBS Avocado, DR Harris Arlington, etc. Besides maybe Trumper's Coconut and Musgo Real, which creams provide the slickest cushion? Creams that almost give your skin armor plating?

On a separate note, I've used Godrej with my Progress in the past and everything went fine, so I figured I should try it with my Dovo. Now maybe my consistency is off with this cream, and it never really mattered before because my Progress always treated my skin smoothly, but it was one of the worst shaves I've had with a straight yet! There was zero protection, which left most of my face feeling pretty raw after my first pass. I had to ditch the lather, whip up some TOBS Avocado, and next thing I knew it was like the razor floated on clouds- just gliding all over my face with little effort. Any straight razors here use Godrej? And if so, tell me what I'm doing wrong!

Salter's Sublime Citrus provides great cushion for me, as does CF Lime. I've never had less than a pillowy shave from any of the GFT creams I've used (Violet, Rose, Sandalwood, Limes and Coconut Oil (which is especially awesome)).

Is it just specifically the sublime citrus from Salters, or is it all Salters? Also, where could I even purchase Salter's creams?

I've only tried the Sublime Citrus, so I can't comment on the other creams. I picked mine up at QED (www.qedusa.com). You'll see a link to the salter page from the QED front page.

I'm starting out with a straight, also. My 5th shave was the other day and I used Godrej Menthol Mist. The worst straight shave I have had. I figured the blade edge was degrading already. Maybe it was the cream. I had used Godrej before, but combined with Tabac as a superlather. During this shave, I kept loosening it up with more water, but it didn't help.

I think I'll try the superlather again before I touch up the blade with a barber's hone. Maybe it was the cream. We might have to save the Godrej for other than straights.

This could become interesting.

I'm glad to see I'm not exactly the only one. I also noticed it dries quickly, which makes me think I'm just screwing up the lather. I love my Godrej- the Mist and Original, but I might have to sell them if they won't work with my Dovo as I haven't used my progress in a little while now.
