May be an old thread but as a noobie was wondering about the fan base of "cream" shavers vs "soap" shavers vs."cream/soap super lathers" shavers. Who prefers what and why ?
Generally, for me I use my creams for bowl lathering and my soaps for face lathering. You can use creams for face lathering and soaps for bowl lathering also. YMMV. I face lather with shave sticks, since that was there intended purpose. There are great creams and great soaps, so I wouldn't want to exclude either from my shave rotation. I think part of the fun of shaving is experimenting with all the different soaps/creams.
I find that soaps are better if I'm in a rush, but the lather for me is usually much more rich and dense with creams on a nice leisure shave. Not to say you can't get a good face lather with a soap but its definitely faster in a pinch because you don't have to lather as much.
I like both and regularly use both either individually or superlathered. I also cream and sticks together and puck them into bowls, that works great too.
I use a rotation like most here, but my acquisitions seem to have left me with more creams than soaps. I tend to buy in lots off of the BST, and it seems that more creams are being sold. Does that mean more people are moving towards soaps? Maybe just nicer creams...
I prefer soaps, I think they are easier to deal with in general and lather great. I've found that I gravitated towards buying more soaps and just recently bought another cream just because I felt unbalanced but not because it was a vital element missing. I don't believe ingredients vary too much.
I like the tobs and proraso creams, they are easier to lather, i end up using too much cream on my brush, i like soaps too, more difficult to lather but are more economical and they keep for years so you can have more soaps in your rotation.
I prefer to use creams, seems to be faster to measure and are more clean to store, in the other hand, Soaps needs to be aware when are dry to put the lid and store.
I started with creams, then began to experiment with soaps after reading various threads on B&B. Lately, I tend to use more soaps because the shave feels easier on my face. Personal preference, of course. Have fun
