Cream in a tub?

Sorry for the newbie question, but I understand how to use cream in a tube. Push out a little dab into a bowl and go to town. How does loading differ then the cream is in a tub? Do you just dip the brush into the tub? Do you scoop some out into the bowl?

I'm guessing you don't go swirling the brush in the tub like you would with soap. What the right way to load your brush with cream from a tub?

Thanks!

i use the 'dip and twist' method, which is where you (surprisingly enough) dip and twist the brush in the tub to get soap on it. Its kind of like a super lightweight version of what you do for a soap

I use a Popsicle stick to remove a small sized portion from the tub. :thumbup1:

You could also use a small spoon as well.

I don't like the "dip and twist" method, as it has the potential to get the entire contents of the tub wet.

You can dip and scoop out some and put it into the bowl.

You can also just give a quick swirl in the tub, which I do.

Isn't this illustrated in the tutorials and/or wiki? When I first started, I dipped out a blob as shown on Mantic's videos. I was always getting either too much or too little. Then I discovered dip and twist....it always yields good results.

I used to just dip some out with my finger. Found it too messy. Now I dip and twist the brush. Even though I've soaked the brush while showering before I shave, I give the brush a good shake to get most of the water out before twisting it in the cream. It doesn't leave any noticeable water in the tub. And as others have said, I get just the right amount of cream on the bristles. Another tip: I also find that when I face lather (instead of lathering in the bowl), I get much better results and much better lather. I simply start lathering on my face, then dip just the tips of the bristles in some warm water as I go until I get that perfect consistency. No matter which cream I'm using (AOS lavender, Musgo Real, Speick, or Nancy Boy), I get more than enough for 3-4 passes, without using gobs of product to start with.

All of the above are correct. In other words, it does not matter how you get the cream from the container into your lathering bowl. Just try a couple of the above methods, and see what works for you.

I'm a dip and twist man. I have also been known to twirl, but don't tell the guys.

I have TOBS Avocado in a tub. I treat it like a soap; I swirl the brush on the surface, get a little cream on the brush, and then face-lather. Works very well for me.

I used "dip and twist" the other day with a tub of T&H UC cream ... but I forgot to soak the brush ahead of time. I just loaded the dry brush and dumped a Tbsp of water into the lathering bowl ... it worked out great, and I got a rich, creamy, slick lather in a little under a minute of pumping the brush up and down.

The softer ones I take out with a little ice cream spoon, for the more solid ones (like the CF's) I swirl my brush around. Whatever works for you....

Thanks everyone. It seems there are two options. I'm starting with the dip and twist, but may switch to a scooper if I see too much water sneaking in.

Dip and twist with a correctly moistened brush works for me. Mine are too hard to dip a pinky into!
