cranky adj plate

I have a Gillette adjustable I've been cleaning. The adj works fine but when I go to close it, 1/2 the time the adj plate is cocked. The other 1/2 it comes up evenly. I've soaked in hot soapy water, now I'm stuck as to what to do next?

More soap, more hot water, more playing with the adjuster.
There's probably still some crud stuck in there that you haven't dislodged yet.

Pour some lighter fluid on the plate, that's what I had to do to mine since it wouldn't even move when I got it.
