Crabtree & Evelyn

I needed some shave cream whilst vacationing in Pigeon Forge, Tn this week. Found a C & E store in the Tanger Shoppes in Pigeon Forge. Picked up some West Indian Lime shave cream. The clerk says the store opened in May. It was well stocked and the clerk was knowledgeable. Now...for a great DE shave in the morning!!!!!! Semper-fi. Mike

Pigeon Forge? Isn't that where Dollywood is located?

Ask about joining C&E's Preferred Shopper Club. When you get to $250 in cumulative sales, you get a lifetime discount.

If your clerk is so knowledgeable, ask them about any plans to bring back C&E's Sweet Almond Oil cream. IMHO, the best shaving cream I ever tried. Such a shame when it was discontinued.

With C&E creams, I love their performance, but I hate the scents. With the SAO cream, I can tolerate the scent in order to get the world class shave. I just wish it had a more appealing aroma.

dpm802, Sorry, just now gwtting back from vacation and found your reply. Yes...Pigeon Forge is where Dollywood is!!! I didn't know about the C&E Club...but will check into it. I didn't ask the clerk about the SAO as I didn't read my replys before leaving town. I can say that I was VERY pleased on the shave results with the C&E West India Lime Cream. A BBS with the Slim Adj. set at 9 and a 7 O'clock yellow. Good glide, no irratation and super lather, even with the hard water. All in all..a keeper..no doubt!!! Semper-fi Mike

I concur about the West Indian Lime cream. It is wonderful stuff. The Sienna cream is great too.

I was at a C&E 2 days ago checking out their products. Their Sandalwood cologne has one of the best aromas I've ever had the pleasure of testing. They also have a nice Sandalwood soap in a wooden bowl. I told my wife about it, hint, hint, Christmas is coming. I wish they gave military discounts. BTW, AoS stores do give military discounts. I wish they weren't so overpriced, even though I've bought a number of things from them including my first kit.

I didn't know AoS offered a military discount. I work a Civilian Job on an Army base, and my DoD Identification has gotten me some, but not all the discounts offered to soldiers off base. But even with a military discount, I doubt that AoS's jacked-up prices will be worth it to make me want to purchase anything.

Sometimes they offer the AoS travel kits at our base exchange. They are only $22 as opposed to the MSRP of $25, and of course, everything is tax free.

I've gotten into the habit of always asking about military discounts wherever I shop. I have missed out so many times because I did not ask. I won't make that mistake again. What's really interesting is that with a military discount I can usually find things cheaper than the PX with no tax. There are very few bargains at the PX and have not been since back in the late '70s. I remember those days very well. The commissary is still great.

I work for AAFES, and I hear this all the time.

Customers are always complaining to us about our prices, and threaten to take their purchasing power off-base.

They seem surprised when I tell them that most of the Exchange employees do the same thing.

I've been using C&E hard soaps for almost 20 years, although I must admit, I've only recently stumbled upon the whole world of B&B, all the wonderful products available, and how to form a "proper" lather. Now that I'm experimenting with other hard soaps (EJ, Truefitt & Hill, MWF), I must say, the C&E soaps form a wonderful lather. The C&E packaging says, "Made in England." Any idea who actually makes it? Is it one of the popular or famous brands?

I believe Creighton is the OEM for most of the English soaps and creams. They also make The Real Shaving Company's line of products.

Creams, but apparently not most soaps. All those poorly-reformulated UK soaps seem to be made by a spin-off of The Body Shop, based in Scotland. Possibly Creightons make the better soaps, for example Harris? Just speculating.

One example:
Last year around Father's day my wife and were at the PX. I needed a new gas grill and I saw a very nice Char-Broil grill for either $259 or $269. Fortunately for me they were out of stock or I would have bought one. The sales person suggested that I might try Home Depot or Lowes. I went to Lowes and they had them on sale for $219.95 AND they still gave me my 10% military discount so I got the grill for under $200.00. It's so sad that AAFES rips off the military, who need all the breaks they can get. I can buy gas locally for a lot less than the prices on post.

I was in McCarran Airport (Las Vegas) and they had a C&E shop... didn't tempt myself while on Restraint so I didn't even step in the door. Hopefully I find another shop after Christmas...
