Crabtree & Evelyn Soaps... ....underrated?

I just shaved with a fresh cake of Nomad Shaving Soap from Crabtree & Evelyn. I really think these are nice soaps which can produce excellent lather and can make for a nice, slick shave. They're also good value, I think the soaps are about 15 bucks each. Their bar soap is also quite nice.

I probably prefer Sienna more, but Nomad is nice too.

Have any of you guys tried C&E? If so, what do you think of them?

I use the Nomad from time to time, I like the scent and it makes a nice lather and a nice shave, but it sees to dry out my skin when done shaving, not that it's a big issue since I only use aftershave balm, but big enough not to make it my go to soap.

I got the sandalwood puck a while ago, and it was ok for the price. I would personally rather spend an extra few bucks and pick up Tabac or Harris soaps.

Sienna: A set up for sneezes.
Jalapeños: Smells like Jalapeños, whoops, I meant to write Nomad there.
Sandalwood: So disappointed by the first two I didn't even want to try this one, especially with all the disappointment from all the other sandalwoods i've tried.

Not a bad soap but performance on my face tends to the dry side. I only have the Nomad and love the scent but don't use it that often. My bowl is two years old and maybe 1/2 way through. It makes for a good change of pace but not an everyday soap.

Regardless of some average reviews on C&E, I have always had great results with their soap. I am so-so on their creams...

IMO, Sienna is the best smelling shaving soap on the market. To me, this is how I define an "old school barbershop scent". (The Sienna cream's scent does nothing for me. It is a different scent than the soap.)

I was at a C&E in a Premium Outlet mall and cleaned out their Sienna wooden bowls. Kind of hard to pass up at $7.00 each...

I considered to buy the Sandalwood a couple weeks ago, but when I smelled it I put it back, it smelled like kebab!?

I always get a great shave from C&E soaps and creams, and they're easy to lather ... I don't like the way they smell, though. Especially Sandalwood, it makes me itch.

I love their Sweet Almond Oil cream ... it gives me the best shave of anything in my collection. I can tolerate the smell, but don't really like it.

C-E Sienna was the second soap I'd ever purchased, and I love the scent. It has worked well for me, but I concur that the C-E soap can have a drying effect on skin, post shave. Also, it does takes some tinkering with the water during lather making to get the stuff where it works great. Sometimes I even have to go so far as dipping the brush tips in water, as I face lather.

Other than that, It's a great soap for me...I don't know if it's considered a premium soap, or a fancy soap per se, but the packaging, and the scent certainly make it seem so to me. The fact that I can get it to work well is a bonus, but it seems like another one of the infamous polarizing soap brands in shavedom. YMMV, go figure.

The two negatives I found for the Sandalwood have been mentioned: minor stinging, more pronounced on the second pass, and a little dry as the shave progresses. Still, I get good cushion and glide from a soap which is cheaper than many others out there.

I have both the Sienna and the Sandalwood. My only problem is the Sandalwood scent - or rather a lack of any scent at all.

Shaved with some Nomad for the first time today after reading this tread. It builds lather very quickly while face lathering. I found it to be not very slick or cushiony though. The scent isn't as bad as when I first opened the box. It's no MWF, but I'll use it again.
