Couldn't resist trying VanDerSpice

While shopping at WallyWorld tonight I spied the VDH Shave Soap for $1.54 ea and decided to whip up some VanDerSpice when I got home. Being that I just stopped at the Family Dollar 2 days ago to stock up on Ivy Club I had plenty of the Spicy goodness to experiment with. So I got one of my small ramekin bowls and nuked the VDH into it. I then added an obscene amount of the Ivy Club, at least 1/4 to 1/3 of the bottle, stirred and set aside to cool. Being impatient I just checked on it and it has solidified quite nicely and I tried whipping up some lather with it. I was a little apprehensive about
all that aftershave in such a small amount of soap but it produced great lather with an awesome scent. Tomorrow morning I'll be testing it on my beard with a fresh Feather blade. We'll see if it earns a spot in my mostly Tallow rotation.

I've tried both the Glycerin VDH and the Deluxe (ha ha) and just don't see the point. Yes its dirt cheap, but its like the Yugo of the shave soap world. Clearly MMDV.

Well, I gave it a try this morning and the scent was fantastic! Unfortunately the performance was not up to my expections and I switched to some Palmolive Stick (Tallow First) for my second and third pass. I guess I'm just a Tallow love'n type of guy. It won't go to waste though, because I''ll be using it as a bath soap. I feel that will be a fantastic use for this soap.

I picked up 2 bottles of Ivy Spice b/c all the good reviews on it. I did mix it with the VDH and it works fine of course and smells OK. I will have to admit that the p&g OS smells better. I have a big ol bottle of the Shultons and the IC doesnt replicate it at all. The has a drydown scent of some type of cheap soap? Its spice for sure but no where near a Shultons replacement. I picked up 2 bottles so I will use them for something. For the price though....it cant be beat.

I am a bit different I like Shulton OS and Ivory Club and use both but I do not like Proctor's Spice.

With OS themed soaps available from Mama Bear and PC, I don't see the need to make my own VDS.

Of course, need has little to do with it, if my ADs are any guide.

I am sure (based on reviews) the Mama Bear, and PC are probably superior to VanDerSpice, but VDS has one major benefit that they don't: the ingredients to concoct it are available locally. :w00t::w00t:

I read this and being a big OS fan had to try it. I had a puck of this stuff laying around from the set I bought at Wally World when I first got started. Just mixed a batch, can't wait to try it.
