Coticule love... show off your rock

I got this coticule from Mr Gary Haywood and wanted to show it because it's unbelievably consistent at giving great edges and seems to get better the more I play with it and I don't know how it could get better and then it does.

My girlfriend's grandfather owned this vintage BBW / coticule.
He bought in the Sixties - Seventies for 1.500 lire (the old italian currency), and barely used at all: the price, the "Extrafine" and the "Made in Belgium" stamps were still visible.

He passed away quite some years before I even met her grand-daughter; after six years of relationship, seeing how I was getting more and more into traditional shaving, she decided to gift me this coti, although she's still quite attached to it as a memento of her grandpa.

It looked like it had been used with oil, so I wrapped it in a cloth and boiled it with dish soap and water, gave it a good lapping with wet 'n' dry sandpaper on a thick glass surface, and...

With a bit of patience (more than a bit, actually), and with the help of a couple of slurry bouts, I have recently managed to fix my modern Boker on it, from setting the bevel to polishing it, that of course lead to a great shave.

Very nice work bringing the old girl back to life. That slurry stone in the back, the one with manganese traces, is nice too!

Thanks! A fellow wet-shaver linked me an italian e-shop that sells Ardennes-Coticule BBW and selected coticule bouts at excellent prices: less than 8 € (plus shipping) for both of them. How could I have resisted? :001_rolle

My Green Les Lat coticule, I’ve actually sold most of my other coticule recently as this stone more or less ticks every box.
Very hard but extremely fine, I use a dilucot technique with a fast band les lat (aggressive) slurry Stone After my pre finisher (TOS)
Followed by a second dilucot using light slurry generated from the matching green slurry stone which gives an incredible edge and it is a fantastic size to use

Nice stone. I've had a few that were stamped like that and they were all very good stones.

Very nice. Did you get it direct from Ardennes?
This was from a guy in Germany maybe 6 months ago who must have been through the tailings at an abandoned mine and glued them himself.
I bought it with two other more glassy hybrids and some bbw type stones all of which he had cut and glued himself

Was this from the guy in France selling all sorts of strange pickings? He is the only one I have seen selling green LL.
Nah different guy, I don’t think he sells them anymore, he was having a big clear out when I picked mine up, and he threw in all sorts of slurry stones including a couple of silly fast les lat coti ones
Most of his les lat hybrids looked similar To the ones being sold in France, just much cheaper
This one I didn’t realise was a les lat until it arrived it was just sold as a green coti, was a terrific surprise
I can’t remember exact figures but I think I paid around £40 GBP for this one which is a complete bargain
