Corrosion

I recently purchased a Damaskeene and an ER 1912 Lather catcher with a metal handle just like a Damaskeene.
After cleaning them I noticed that corrosion started to emerge from various places of the handle . (Only on the handle)

A Gem OCMM also started having corrosion on the head ( on places where the plating has been removed.)

I was with the idea that all of those are made from brass. Does any of you Gents else encountered this problem?

You are correct in believing that these razors are generally made of brass. Once you lose some of the plating, the brass will begin to corrode. Under relatively dry conditions, it is usually a rather slow process. A little brass polish will remove it. Almost all old razors will show some signs of this corrosion if they have been used to any degree. It is quite normal and expected.

Regards,
Tom

My GEM Jr. Bar Damaskeene handle/stropping attachment will rust if I don't dry them well. I don't think they're plated brass.

+1 Normally if its made from brass during the corrosion process only green color brass oxide will form on the surface. But whats appearing on the handle looks like carbon steel corrosion. So I assume they made the head part with brass and handle from carbon steel.

Still its puzzling to see OCMM head corroding like carbon steel.

Polish thoroughly with Maas, Flitz, or similar. After each shave, dunk your razor in a container of Barbicide while you finish getting ready, then take it out, shake & pat dry. That should prevent any progression.
