I've been seeing this on the news more and more the last few days. I was just talking to a friend about it and he suggested its growing more quickly than I had known. I checked the CNN site for it here;

This map tracks the coronavirus in real time - https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/29/health/coronavirus-map-real-time-tracking-trnd/index.html

This from that site updated by them at Updated 8:56 PM ET, Wed January 29, 2020. Just last night.

That 3,869 new cases in less than 24 hours. That seems like a high rate of spread to me, but what do I know? lol

Clearly I need to read a bit more, I generally dont pay a lot of attention to the news but apparently, the WHO is calling this virus a "global emergency".

Just curious if anyone else is following this outbreak and what some thoughts might be about it.

To put it into perspective, Hubei province (the worst area for Coronavirus) in China has a population of over 58,500,000 and about 5,800 diagnosed cases. That is less than 0.01% of the population. That is one in ten thousand.

The corona virus does seem to be spreading quickly and is showing up across the globe. How much deadlier is it than the “standard” flu?

Supposedly the US is closing the door to inbound foreign nationals who have been to China in the past 14 days starting Sunday.

Who really knows what's happening.....the infection and death rate are not linear and this is just starting.....
No treatment besides supportive care....
Time will tell.....
Sars time was NOT fun at all.....

A 2 to 14 day incubation period with asymptomatic transfer. When I read that, it got my attention.

There was an update from 5PM lo 7PM EST last night.

Jan.31 2020 7AM EST.jpg

1448 new cases in two hours.

As of the 10AM update this morning.

Feb.1 2020 7AM EST.jpg

650 new cases in 15 hours.

The denser the population, the more difficult this will be to control and contain. Its spreading so quickly that they're building emergency hospitals in Wuhan China.

One of the emergency hospitals Wuhan is panic-building is looking close to completion. Watch a live feed of the construction here. - https://www.businessinsider.com/video-emergency-hospital-in-wuhan-appears-close-to-completion-2020-1

I'm not worried, but I am paying attention.

Going to unpack that new Yaqi brush very carefully ... If it ever gets here!

I was curious about that too. There have been no reported cases and the CDC thinks its unlikely.

I did....had gloves on...and tossed all packing....so rash that I had to recover a head in the bin....outside.
Virus isn't supposed to live long on surfaces...so who knows how long since it was packed....I guess: wait 14d...

We have a friend who lives in Hong Kong and he says Amazon quit making bulk shipments of much needed face masks to Hong Kong. He asked we we could send him a smaller amount and so we found a source in Pennsylvania and saw that the price per box was was reasonable, but the shipping was $1,500 to Minnesota! Price gouging at its worst!

We're not sure what to do, but we will keep trying to find ways to get some masks to them.

Keep in mind that these are confirmed cases. There was around 11,000 more sick but who were not yet confirmed to have the virus. Thus a lot of what we're seeing could also be speed in processing and reporting, and not necessarily rate of spread. Also keep in mind the virus could have a two week incubation period, so there could be those infected who are not yet showing symptoms. So, even if no one else contracts the virus from this moment on, the number of confirmed cases will continue to climb for a while.
