A couple of dear friends had a pile of collected bric-a-brac from a recently departed grandparent, and they were offering various bits to me, a nice 70s Braun lighter, a cool robin's-egg blue Parker 51 fountain pen, and then I spied a little brown zip-up case...
It was a grooming kit- inside was a cuticle tool, comb, nail file and...
...a perfectly clean english alu ball-handle Tech!
They offered to swap me a pint for it and I tried not to giggle too hard. The handle is really shiny, as is the blade plate, though the top is tarnished grey everywhere but where the retaining strap held it. From the diamond-shaped gillette logo on the top, I'm placing this somewhere in the 50s.
Does anyone know what the head of the english aluminum razors were made of? Is it nickel-plated brass (and thus, polishable)? Or alu with some kind of strange tarnish? Any ideas on how best to get it back to a pretty lustre like the rest of the razor?
Sorry, I haven't got a pic yet, but will post one when I get back.
