Converting a bulb shape brush to a fan or flattop shape

I own a new Rooney Heritage Stubby 3XL brush. It is bulb shaped and I prefer a fan shape. Has anyone out there ever tried to 'trim' a bulb shaped brush into a fan shape. I'm wondering if its safe to do with a sharp cutting instrument;or would slightly trimming the top ruin the brush. Its an expensive one. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

NO NO NO.

it is nothing you can do now, it's that way and has to remain that way.

the hair is put in the glue/base to give it that shape and there is no changing it.

if you want a fan, you will have to order one. you will destroy your brush entirely if you attempt to cut it yourself.

I am not sure I understand this correctly. Do you want to trim the tips of a $300 brush? Trim as in using a "sharp cutting instrument" to cut the badger hair?

It was just a passing thought.I don't think I ever would have tried it any way due to the cost of the brush.. But now, having read brucered's warnings and the other comments,I have totally dismissed the idea. I can live with a bulb shaped brush but all the other Rooney Stubby brushes I've own(several) have all been fan shaped. Thanks again everyone for your warnings and advise.

YIKES. NO. Just trade it for another, or if you can't find a willing trade partner then sell it and buy the one you want with the money you get.

Oh my god I read the post and my heart rate jumped to 120 BPM. Please never cut the hair of a shaving brush!
If you do not like it, just sell it on the B/S/T and buy a different one.
No need to harm innocent brushes!
