convert to head shaving

So I experimented with shaving my head (let's just say the receding hairline and some encroaching grey hairs were not making me feel all that vibrant), and I have to say I really like it. What's more, an idea struck me today as I was shaving it again - Proraso on the scalp! How cool is that?

Everyday here for shaving the dome. This summer I've been using MB Awakening followed by osage rub....WOW! Now that is cool...or freezing.

I shave my head everyday due to MPB. I just recently started using my DE and what a difference. Not sure I could handle menthol on my head though.

Here's a line from The Lincoln Lawyer, by Michael Connelly: "Dobbs was a thin man who shaved his head to hide male-pattern balding." Hide schmide! I shave my head (trim with clippers actually, leaving a touch of stubble) not to hide anything, but because what's the point in keeping around some pathetic looking follicles that you can't do anything with no matter how hard you try?

Shaving is a liberating feeling, isn't it? It's your way of taking some control over the situation. Not only that, but it feels great, and you'll never have another bad hair day. For me, the best part is driving my convertible and looking the same at the end of the drive as I did at the start.

Well said. I had been doing the clipper no. 1 buzzcut for a while, which really was an attempt to minimize the appearance of (or hide, if you will) my receding hairline, and I hated it, so unless I wanted to go for the transplant or the Rogaine, shaving was the way to go.

Welcome to the club! I've been shaving my head for about 3 years now. I love the menthol blast in the summertime. I like MB Awakenings soap followed by Osage Rub. :w00t:

Agreed. It starts out liberating, becomes something you love. Exceedingly comfortable, low maintenance and weather proof. What's to dislike?

I use anywhere from a 00000 to a 000 blade on my clipper, depending on my mood, which leaves some stubble, but is way closer than a "buzz cut" type trim. It certainly doesn't hide anything; if anything, leaving stubble makes the balding pattern more visible than shaving does. But for me, from what I've been told by people I trust, the stubble look works better than actual shaving. That is obviously not the case with everybody.

My head is the only use I have for a Fusion. I have been doing it for 12 years. Menthol is great, but I need sterner stuff than Proraso. My scalp sneezes in the face of most menthol products, even my Voltron combination of Mandarin Ice/Proraso/Shave Secret, followed with Ice Blue. The Blue Line gets and keeps its attention, though. Time for the 'Rub...

Thanks. You find that more cooling than the other stuff you've tried? Seems these home crafters really know how to kick up the menthol. Jdboucher was quite thrilled with Joanne's (TSD) hyper-mentholated products, as well.

Yup. It kicks Aqua V right in the stomach. I'll have to get some Osage to compare it to sometime. I may end up trying that My Time SC. It's supposed to be the Osage Rub of SC.

I used a clipper no. 0 (i.e., no blade guard) to get the hair down to shaveable length, but I found it harder on the skin than shaving. Right now I plan to shave every other day, both to save some time and in the hope that the skin on my scalp won't get as sensitive as the skin on my face.

It's still a bit weird to look in the mirror and see my head all lathered up!

I used a headblade for the first time today; it seems to work pretty well. The first time I shaved it I used a Schick Extreme 3 because I thought the flexible blades would be good. I also used a Bic sensitive once, which actually worked pretty well, too. I don't want to keep using disposables, however, for environmental reasons.

What kind of mirror setup do you guys use to enable you to see the back of your head?
