Contemplating a upgrade

Im currently using a escali pure badger brush (similar to tweezerman) and im thinking of buying a edwin jagger pure badger brush. Reason being is that it tends to feel a little too prickly when face lathering. My brother has a EJ pure badger and it feels a lot softer than the escali, im on a little bit of a tight budget too. Also wondering if there would be a difference in lathering capability?

What do you guys think?

My friend, pure badger brushes are always more or less scratchy. If you want a softer brush in a good price range you should get one in Best.

I understand that pure brushes are scratchy but there is a noticeable difference in the softness of the EJ pure brush compared to the escali IMO. Its the lathering capability of the EJ is what i wanted to know.

How soft do you want? If you want "Feels like rubbing a fuzzy pillow against one's face" soft and want one on a budget I suggest a Omega 636 silvertip. WCS has em for $45

I think a boar brush would be less scratchy than a badger in pure. I have the EJ best and it was my first brush but that's about as much scritch/scratch as I can handle. It worked and I was happy until I found a good boar. Of course, nothing compares to a nice silvertip.

The difference between the two brushes you are contemplating is not a big one.

There is going to be a difference between any brush but two brushes in pure badger are going to be basically the same as far as the base feel of the bristles on your face. The difference will be in the knot diameter and the loft that they knot is set at. That is where you will see a difference in brush performance (how it builds lather).

If you feel that the EJ will be a good brush for you, by all means get one. It will not be the last brush you "try out" that's for sure :smile"

+1 Really depends on your desire, but there are some good brushes out there; Semogue boars, Simpsons Best, TGN Finest, etc. Good luck.

+1 Boar you cannot beat the softness on a budget factor with them. If you want a world class badger on a budget I suggest a Simpson Berkley
