Contact Lenses

Where's the best place to order them from online? Also, what brand/type do you guys recommend for sensitive eyes (my eyes dry out with lenses, also they're sensitive to light). thanks, Nick

You should ask these questions to your eye doctor. Most opticians (or opthalmologists I suppose too) will work with you to find the best contact fit for your eyes. Up to you how you want to purchase them after that, but I just get them from the guy who takes care of my eyes.

Thing is, I tried a bunch that the optician had to offer. I couldn't seem to settle on anything they had to offer. When I put the lenses in, my eyes would tear up, feel like they itch, and burn a bit. I used to use lenses all the time years back and never had that problem. Don't know why this happened the last time I tried trial lenses. I'm trying to be optimistic and give it a go again. I figured I'd ask around here to see if people with similar eyes liked a particular brand that they could tip me off to. This time around I want to pick a type, then order them online. -Nick

Nick, I've had great luck with Fresh Look disposables. My eyes are pretty sensitive (less so since I've stopped smoking) and these were the only ones that I didn't get a great deal of discomfort from.

I wore the Accuvue Oasis for several years and really enjoyed them. They are ultra breathable and very moist. Good for 2 weeks normal wear or 1 week continuous wear. I switched to Ciba Night and Day this year only because they are approved for 30 days continuous wear and are also very comfy and moist. I tested a sample pair from my doctor for 2 weeks.
To buy locally;
Costco, forget everywhere else except maybe Sam's Club.

Online;
Vision Direct
Coastal Contacts

Well, trial lenses are real lenses. They aren't any different than what you would buy. I would try a new optician. I went through three of them before I found a guy that could really help me. But on that note, I am about to look for new lenses as well. I have been in B&L Purevision Torics for 2 years now and they are much less comfortable and more irritating to wear than they were initially. I am at my last pair and already had my eyes rechecked so that reminds me to give him a call. :biggrin:

I don't know what your level of astigmatisim is but mine was relatively low and my Dr. felt skipping the Toric was worth the trade off after discussing my options.

+1 on taking this up with the eye doc. There may be an underlying issue (for me it's allergies -- I can wear contacts outside of allergy season, but not when things are in full bloom). There are issues of size and shape to worry about, as well.

I get mine from Coastal Contacts and I use freshlook disposables. I've not really had any problems from them.

Are you sure this is the result of the lense and not the solution you are using? Just a thought.....

:blushing: I never even thought about that Sue. Thanks for bringing that up, because I only used the solution they gave me to test.

I've worn contacts for years except the last few and have had a issues with some of the solutions. Try to get some samples from your optho since it can be expensive and experiment to make sure it isn't something so simple as solution or the artificial tears brand. I hope that is it, so an easy fix.

ps...if you are or are nearing your 40's stick with gas perms or hard lenses. It will help keep you from needing reading glasses a longer period of time.

If you're using disposables then your best bet is to work with your optician until you find something that you like then buy that exact same brand online through a discount website.

Other things that you should check on are your solution, making sure your hands are clean. Make sure that there isn't soap left on your hands when you put your contacts in, it would leave a residue on the contact and be irritating all day long. Some contacts need to be cleaned (rubbed) others don't.

Good luck.
