What's new

Confession

Just needed to get this out there, but I love the smell of badger from a new brush. My new brush came with instructions on how to wash it and soak it. They were even nice enough to provide a packet of Oxyclean to help. I said heck with this and started using it without the pre wash, just the regular pre -wetting. Let me tell you that I think it is quite good and adds a masculine scent. I feel better already, but is there anyone else out there who thinks it is a nice scent also?

Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately, no I find the smell of new badger to be fairly repugnant. Although I will say amongst my three badger brushes, the Simpson in best was by far the most pungent, if that's what you're into.

Not me. In the barbicide for 5 minutes. Then wash in hot then lather and rinse really well and dry. that always gets the funk out for me. anything new gets the barbicide before the face or hone.

Oxyclean? Heresy.
Which vendor, if you don't mind my asking?

I think I'm with you on badger smell being fine, but I can't tell if you've got a really funky specimen on your hands. If so, I'm out.
Even if you weren't keen on that animalic smell, the most you'd have to do to get rid of it is use it a few times with a scented soap, or give it a short soak in diluted vinegar.

My VDH Badger stunk horribly and took a lot of effort to make usable.

The two Whipped Dog Silvertips hardly had any badger odor at all. I cleaned the first one following the directions and using the cleaner it came with, but it hardly seemed worth the effort. I didn't bother with the second one and it has not been a problem at all.

Your results may vary.

Whipped Dog black badger. I think it is a great brush for the price. I was a little frightened by the instruction on how to get the badger smell to subside, but I skipped it and dove right in. I will actually miss it when it dissipates. It goes well with the manly smell of Mike's shaving soap barber scent.

For a second I thought you said Commodore 64. It brought back a flood of memories of playing Raid over Moscow and Zork off floppies.

My VDH brush didn't stink at all which I thought was weird.

First of all, welcome aboard. Secondly.check the B/S/T as I will be selling a live badger shortly. :biggrin1:

I wonder if an affection or positive reaction to the aroma of a badger brush might be evidence of reincarnation. Could it be that some of us were in a previous life dachshunds, a breed created to pursue the badger? Now we are all pursuing hairs (hares) across our hides.

If you like the funk try a VanDerhagen badger, took me over 2 weeks and effort to get the funk out. And if you are a reincarnated doxy avoid buffets you may explode. Lol

I had read about the funk of badger brushes so when I got my VDH brush, I gave it a sniff and thought, "What's the big deal?" That was when it was dry. Once it got wet, the funk ions went into overdrive! The brush had a terrible stench which most likely came from the business end of the badger and I'm not talking about its mouth. I found the most perfumed shampoo in the house and thoroughly shampooed it at least 10 times as well as soaking it in soapy water for hours before I'd put that thing anywhere near my face. It took a lot of work to get the funk out.

No! Acutally, hell no! They stink! My WD brush wasn't too bad but my VDH smeeld so bad that for the first week the bathroom would smell like a pack of dead badgers pulled out of a swamp. Ick!

Of course I kid. I don't care for any of the animal smells from new brushes but if it's your thing, enjoy it while it lasts.
