I just saw this today on their website. Has this been the case for a while? I just noticed. Bummer.

The rules?
My guess is we've seen the last of Connaught's. If they can't ship to the USA they're finished. Maybe I'm wrong but that's a big hit on their business. I, alone, have ordered 5 times from them since last April.
Sounds like silly overkill on safety. Has anyone ever seen an exploding bottle of aftershave? Whatever happened it just happened because I got a recent shipment from them loaded with "hazmat."It only pertains to products that are deemed too dangerous to ship by air without special packing material and warnings which aftershave and cologne require (according to all of the shipping providers).
The package has to be labeled as HAZMAT and the cost goes out the roof. I suppose if you are willing to pay the additional $50 hazmat fee on top of the shipping cost to get a $20 bottle of aftershave they would be more than happy to send it to you as long as they have the required packing materials and labels. From what I understand, the fine for not meeting hazmat shipping requirements are $70k so it is not taken lightly.
Any vendor that does not have a secondary method (ground) to ship will not sell over seas. This is why almost no one will not aftershaves/colognes to Hawaii even though it is part of the US (last time I looked anyway)

Mainly they are concerned about leakage from improperly packed items since they are shipped in non-pressurized environments on aircraft.

It's a customs thing. US vendors can't ship alcoholic products into Canada, either, and vice versa, because, um . . . it's . . . er . . .
Anybody?
It has become the role of government agencies to protect you from yourself.
Labeling aftershaves the same as high explosives is just the tip of the iceberg
Most places can, but don't. I believe the restriction is no more than 100 ml or 4 oz from US to Canada. Connaught has never sent alcohol based products over seas as far as I know.
