Compression Socks vs Compression Hose

Ok...this is going to probably not have any responses, but on the off chance there are others that have this question I ask.

I work very long hours and am on my feet for up to 12hrs a day. I am starting to get a bit up there in age, and have noticed some swelling of the legs after a shift. My next logical step is to buy some compression undergarments. I am a bit torn between buying compression socks ( which go for about 60 a pair) or compresssion hose ( which go for about 40 a pair). Im working about four nights a week, so washing between shifts is not really going to happen. I am also wondering If I were to buy hose, if wearing a pair of socks over those is advised.

I am a bit hesitant to buy $240 worth of compression socks vs $160, but I do want to take care of my feet/legs.

Hopefully there are some members that can chime in.

I will be 68 next month and started wearing Futuro support hose. The dress over the calf model in F or firm compression. I probably started wearing them 40 years ago well before I had any problems and as a pharmacist I have spent many hours standing, and to this day have no swelling, varicose veins ect. That's not to say my feet and legs do not get tired.

It has been several years since I bought any but they were nowhere near the price you mentioned, more like $20 per pair.

Whatever you get, take proper care of them and they will last for years. First get the correct size. Next do not wash in extremely hot water. Last and most important do not put in a dryer, allow them to drip dry. A clothes dryer will ruin the rubber and thus the stretch and compression quickly.

Just doing a quick google of these I see prices around $20, If you go the Jobst brand, same level of compression they are almost $40 per pair. I would try the Futuro first.

I've worn compression socks at various times as I used to work in a position where I would be on my feet for extended periods and have also worn them to bed after long days. After wearing them to bed my calf's definitely feel better in the morning. I have compression tights that I wear when playing sport and they are very good also.

You could try a pair of these as they are relatively inexpensive to see if it makes a difference for you.
