What's new

Complete this phrase: I am just about ready to give up on:

... Palmolive stick (Germany).

I give this a go every so often and it invariably produces a dreadful result for me. Irritation, cuts, just rough going altogether. I'm loathe to bin it because I know it has many adherents here, the price is great, and there have been a few products that have taken a while to get a handle on. But it's goofy how this one's such a consistent outlier for me.

What's on your endangered list?

I am just about ready to give up on Nivea Post Shave Balm. I think it feels great and it heals my skin as advertised. However, I find that it is a little too heavy on my skin and leaves my face feeling very oily. I still think it feels good and I like to have it on hand if I wind up with some irritation, but I'm very close to completely abandoning it due to the oily skin factor.

Pre-shave anything. I don't think the slightly marginal difference in my shave is worth the extra cost and time.

And you might want to try mixing your Palmolive stick with cream to form a superlather.

The Merkur 39C. I do not know why, by I get a surprisingly aggressive and rough shave with this razor. I like slants in principle (for example the Ikon Slant and a vintage Hoffritz/37C) but this one "bites." I also have this beef with my Merkur 38C, which I have misplaced and am not searching for.

Maybe if you removed the Sunderland crest the Palmolive might like you?

DE89, was about ready to give up on it then I added a shim and WOW, now I get it.

Nothing, at the moment. There will be a few things I don't reorder right away, but at the moment there is nothing i have that doesn't have it's place and/or can't produce a great shave. I do have a few odd blades and samples I don't care much for, but these were PIFs, exchanges, etc. Since I was never really committed to them to begin with, I can't really say I've "given up" on them. Even with those odd items I can still get a fine shave.

Finding a well paying career that I enjoy. Ive been paycheck to paycheck for 20 years. Its depressing to see how people judge others of less wealth as being beneath them, when its the people on the lower rungs making them all their money. I work at a private golf course and see a lot of very well off and fortunate people. 90% are 100% genuine a**holes who have likely never touched a shovel and broke a sweat in their lives. Oh, what a fair society we live in. :mad3: (No offence to the wealthy)
At least I know I'm getting a better shave than most of 'em.

I am a rank newby and have no right or standing, but......

RANT MODE:ON

I am just about ready to give up on: being able to buy a single tube (or tub) of Arko either locally or online without having to buy 137 of them, or being charged $632.57 for delivery to my front door in the central US.

Being a newby, I have an extreme curiosity of all things related to DE wet shaving, and am trying to explore as many options as possible to find the right "groove". Right now, I am curious about shaving soaps and creams, but don't have the time nor (more importantly) the budget to satisfy all I want to know and experience about soaps and creams. I have read all the raves regarding the economy and performance of Arko and as a practical matter want to try it myself, but neither want nor need a 9 years' supply.

OK.....deep breath.
RANT MODE:OFF

Thanks for indulging me, Can you tell I have too much time on my hands?

Aftershaves ... I started with alum and after trying (and giving away) 7 aftershaves I don't see anything replacing the alum block.
Here's one I can run with. After several weeks of the La Toja stick, I'm good with a quick cold water splash post-shave. Although, I reached for a drop of 444 today. :wink2:

You can get tubes on Amazon, Maggard Razors, or Italian Barber.
