Complementary colognes....

I know some people use a product line, and will, for example, shave with Grafton, use Grafton ASB, and follow it up with Grafton EDC.

I don't have any complete lines, but I do enjoy using an EDC that complements the scent of the shaving cream/soap I use.

A few examples:

1) VDH Deluxe with Grey Flannel (an obvious one)
2) SCS "Candy Cane" SS (peppermint) with Oxford and Cambridge (this combination is really satisfying)
3) MB Frankincense and Myrhh with Prada Pour Homme (the Prada has a lot of myrhh-like qualities)

Anybody else do this? If so, what are some of your combinations?

For some reason, I like Grey Flannel with Sandalwood. I'll use either the QED Sandalwood and Rose from last year's B&B group order or AoS Sandalwood soap along with Grey Flannel aftershave and EdT.

I also like Trumper's Rose with Vintage Tabarome EdT.

My new pairing is Nancy Boy soap with Mandom aftershave. The yin and yang of wetshaving!

I never bother to match up edt, AS, shaving soap/cream per the same brand.
/name of product ala Grafton, except SCS Bulgarian lavender shaving cream, Bulgarian lavender ASB, and standard SCS lavender edt.

I generally do not worry about the scent of the cream or soap and use an AS that does not have much scent or fades immediately, such as Superior 70 BR, regular witch hazels, Nivea lotions, Florida Water, Hoyts.

I find myself using a bit of Nandita sandalwood oil with all kinds of other edt type scents though, and may do that with Floris Sandalwood, too. I just like having that sandalwood set of lingering basenotes and I do not think the Nandita quite works as a free-standing edt-type scent.

I have used Knize Ten under various scents that seemed too floral and/or light to me, but what they were is not immediately coming to mind.

I bet that is nice. I have come to think of the O&C lavender-peppermint thing as some kind of genius anyway. Anything that helps give O&C some tenacity!

You are probably okay with any of the soaps. But if you were using the NB parfum, you would have to be careful as it comes in "Butch" and "Fem." You would not want to get that double dose of yang (if my memory of the Tao is accurate) by combining Butch and Mandom! It might unbalance the Universe, or at leasty your own living space!

What the heck does Mandom really smell like anyway?

The description of NB "Butch": "Deep notes of sandalwood and tobacco topped off with fresh citrus. Voodoo sex incantations woven throughout."
