Compare Astra SPs and Shark Super Chromes

Considering purchasing 100 Shark blades. Astra SPs work very well for my moderate beard in my HD, EJ DE89L, and Tech. I really don't need to try another blade, but I'll try the Sharks if enough of you guys tell me they are comparable or better than the SP. Thanks for any feedback!

I have some of the shark super chromes that are in the wrong packaging (aka the ones people are talking about QC issues) I will use up the pack of them I have but I will not be buying more due to I prefer some other Lord made blades. (but hey my mind might change by the time i finish the pack) I say you should try them because YMMV is a big thing when it comes to blades. Do not let other peoples opinion affect the products you want to try ( for instance I bought Derby blades even though I read a lot of bad reviews and found them better than the Astra SP for my face due to i got a no irritation shave from the Derby but it was not as close as the astra for me Ill take a comfortable fun shave over a realy close uncomfortable shave) I used a Shark Super Chrome during shark week and I got some good shaves but I had a little acne at the time and it cut right through my bumps. It did give me a little bit of irritation and i found it to be a little on the rough side but It wasnt nearly as bad as the NOS Nacet blade I tried.

I have experience with both blades in my Gillette Fatboy. Two of my favorite blades actually, the Astra SP and Shark SC. They both last three shaves for me, possibly four but why take the risk. For me the Astra SP is smooth and sharp, and the Shark is more direct/precise and perhaps a tiny bit sharper. The shark logo is pretty cool too. Try them.

I don't like the Shark SC in my R41 - nick me and feel uncomfortable. I love them in my EJ DE86, smooth and a close shave.

I like Astra SP in both R41 and EJ DE86 so I know which one I prefer if I was buying 100 of them.

Thanks for your opinions. Not an overwhelming sentiment either way. Might just have to find a pack or two before committing to a brick.

I have had good results with Sharks in the past, but a recent hundred pack was a disaster for me. I do like the wrapper though....

Anyway, I gave away all but a few of the Sharks to people who either like them, or wanted to try, and I'm happy again with a drawer full of Astra SP blades.. Try a sample before you commit to a hundred Sharks. I always look for new blades to add to my collection, but I prefer to try some current production blades first, and if they are winners, grab a bunch. If not so good, not much lost...

Pretty much my 2 favorite blades. Both feel great to me and give me a great BBS shave. I the sharks give me a bit of a closer shave fwiw.

I have some Shark SC's I've yet to try, sounds like people are preferring them in a milder razor. I liked the Astra SP's, they were my first (and only, thus far) 100 blade purchase as a matter of fact. The glue spots are bothersome, but I usually hit my razor with a toothbrush after each shave, so it doesn't build up.

Sharks were mild and much appreciated when learning my technique with my merkur hd. Astra blades were not as forgiving. That said, I have moved on to sharper and another blades imho.

Oh no! You shouldn't pass! I've never used the SC's but the SS Sharks are my go to blade. Between Shark and Astra I would say its a toss up. I have a new 100 pack of Sharks in the new packaging and its the same blade. No quality control issues. People seem to think that if the wrapper changed that it must coincide with some other change in the production. I can't say they're better than Astra's, but they're on par and i wouldn't pass them up. PM me if you interested in trying some.

Missed your reply bVance! Appreciate your offer....

I know bVance said he would straight up PIF you some, but I have maybe 80 Shark SC left and really want to try the ASTRA SP. I would consider a trade of a couple of packs each if you want. My experience with the Shark is I get a very mild but GOOD shave with them. I just tried another Feather and got a nice sharp shave but not as forgiving. Both gave great shaves but YMMV. PM Me if interested although may not be worth the price of shipping. Either way.

My favorite blade so far is the Astra SP. It is consistently sharp and very smooth. I have used the Shark SC and it seems to be equally sharp but not as smooth; it seems to tug on my beard. I really wanted the Shark's to be my favorite because I liked the packaging and the name. I have a few packs left of the Shark's but when their gone, their gone...not going to buy them again. The Astra's work very well for me and the cost is a bonus...I'd pay double for the Astra's if I had to.

Incidentally, I usually use the Gillette Slim or an EJ DE89.
