They seem to be a bit of a relic left over from the colonial era. Apart from the athletes, is anyone excited about them anymore?

It is what it is.
A bit of fun, and definitely worth watching if it's on tv at the right time.
In saying that I can't see myself getting out of bed to watch much of it.

If your Nation is playing then support will follow. I have not seen any events yet but heard NZ have won a Gold for cycling and broke a games record.

I haven't been interested in the Commonwealth Games since about 1986. Nonetheless, it's better than pretty much everything else on the teev, so I'll have it on if I'm at home.
