What's new

Cologne recommendation?

I've been wearing Burberry Brit for probably the last 6-7 years. Decided to try something new. Purchased some Bvlgari Avqa Marine. I thought I liked it in the store. After a couple days of wearing it, I realize I'm not really crazy about it. It's ok, but a lighter to Acqua Di Gio to me.

Fragrances I've used in the past and liked:
Burberry Brit (obviously)
Fahrenheit
Polo Sport
(i realize these are not similar at all)

Fragrances I've used and won't use again.
Polo (original green bottle)
Polo Blue
Acqua Di Gio

I have a bottle of Ogalla Bay Rum also.. and while I enjoy it, it doesn't last more than 30 minutes.

For gits and shiggles.. I ordered samples of Puredistance M, Amouage Jubiliation XXV, Amouage Memoir Man, Frapin 1270, and Frapin 1697. I don't want to say what the chances of me actually buying one of these are... I would really have to fall in love with it to spend that kind of $. I'd prefer to keep it under $80.

Having said all that.. I would greatly appreciate suggestions on what I should check out. Seems like I've been wearing cologne forever (considering I'm only 30) but haven't found a lot that I really like. Part of it is that I just haven't looked as I've been content with Burberry Brit for so many years. I have sampled some other Burberry's in the past (Weekend and London) but haven't enjoyed them as much. As you can see, my nose is pretty random.. so I'm open to all suggestions. :biggrin1:

I'm wearing L'homme by YSL right now. It's not overpowering and lasts most of the day on me. There are three or four variations. The original is more woody and citrus, while some have more of a tobacco undertone. If you go to Sephora, they'll give you a sample of anything in the store (up to three samples per day) to take home and try so you can play around to see what you like without spending the money up front.

I've been quite enjoying GFT Spanish Leather lately.
Weather getting cooler... I think it's time for Eucris this week.

Try the Burberry classic. Do you want a summer or winter scent, or are you looking for a signature scent?

Looking for a signature scent.. I feel like I've tried all of the other Burberry's before, but only really liked the Brit. I'll have to give the classic another try though to be sure.

I guess I wouldn't be opposed to wearing a separate scent in the summer and winter if there were two I really liked.

Age?

What I would respectfully suggest is to got to the Fragantica website ,and try to distinguish what type of fragrance your looking for.
example: Fougere, Gourmand, Wood, Florals, Chypre etc. They have a ton of information to help you out.

Polo double black for winter. For summer, chanel bleu, ysl l'homme, versace eros, mont blanc legend, and all kinds of others.

Creed git is another great one.

Though like in my immoral post, I really like Burberry classic, but everyone's different.

My two "go-to" scents are Rive Gauche by Yve Saint Lauren, and Gendarme EdP by Gendarme. Either one of those gets me plenty of compliments from the fairer sex as well as co-workers. I'm told Rive Gauche smells masculine and and Gendarme just has this clean or "new" smell. Plus, with Gendarme, I can spray a ton and it never gets offensive! (I've been experimenting with application amount)

Do yourself a favor and get your nose on these my friend.

Imaginary Authors Cape Heartache
L'Occitane Amber & santal
Montale Embruns D'essaouira (This is the best aquatic scent . think of it like a niche version of l'eau de issey)
Serge Lutens Borneo
Lubin Le Vetiver

I know some of these are aboe what you wanted to spend but you need to trust me :)

Polo Double Black is a good call. As a fellow wearer of Burberry Brit, I'd recommend checking out Jasmin et Cigarette by ELdO for an alternative. No, it's not especially similar to Brit.

I am a big fan and have bottles of Burburry Brit and Classic. With the cooler weather I am really liking John Varvatos. Wife got me a bottle of Varvatos Vintage and I love it. A little goes a long way and it is definitely a cool weather scent.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I tried several of the ones listed in this thread. Polo Double Black and Montblanc Legend are two I think I really like.. especially Montblanc. I'm seriously contemplating making this my next purchase.

Burberry Classic was nice, as was the Chanel Bleu.

I'll keep looking for some of the others listed in this thread.
