Cold/Flu Season Shaving Preparedness

I started the week with a head cold that is, fortunately, now in remission. Like many of you, I didn't have the luxury of staying home, so a daily shave before work was still necessary. Without the ability to, well, smell, I found my shaving cream and AS decision-making process altered.

I decided to use a custom mytimebathandbody blend of eucalyptus and menthol (think Vick's Vaporub), followed by SCS Blue line AS to keep to cool sensation going. If I couldn'r smell, at least I could feel the menthol, and the eucalyptus/menthol effect in the cream at least seemed therapeutic, whether it was clinically efficaceous or not.

So, in the spirit of preparedness for cold and flu season, what would/do you shave with when faced with a similar situation?

Oh, and everyone stay well!

I guess I would just kind of ride it out. Like you did, knowing the effects of your cream and aftershave helps out. I typically get mild congestion this time of year--a combination of allergies and the temperature changes.

This cold/flu season, I've got a serious prevention regemine that i'm adhering to:

1000mg buffered vitamin C 3 times a day
Phytogen 2 capsules twice a day
Mucoccinum one tablet under the tongue whenever I get sneezy or have itchy sinuses (usually my first symptom of a flu/cold)

As far as shaving while sick and stuffy, I go to my Proraso green tub for the healing power of menthol. I lather up good, walk out to the kitchen and get my coffee started to prolong the menthol effect. Shave er up, then go pound coffee. At noon, I switch to bourbon.

YMMV.

This is about the most well-rounded regimen I've seen. If the vitamin C doesnt' kill the nasties, the bourbon will!:a54:

Again, the question is what do you shave with when you have a cold, etc. (and must shave)? I see Proraso -- anyone else have experience or plans in this regard?

Let's not debate silly issues like medical treatment here.

I was sick a few weeks ago and couldn't smell either. I pulled out the CO Bigelow and Eucalyptus soap and went to town.

My cold starting a week and a half ago prompted me to have another go at my Wilkinson Sword soap which has been unused for quite some time. Why use my good soaps/creams when I can't smell anything? The smell is faintly like a roll-on deodorant but no big deal. I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked. It is my ambition now to use this exclusively until it is used up. (Will be the first soap I've actually finished.)

Hope this finds you feeling better, Grouse. Enjoy the soap!

Thanks Grude, better now. Noticed this morning I'm nearly reached the bottom of the soap bowl. Judging from that, I guess there's maybe about 3 months worth of shaves in each puck which for less than £2 is pretty good going.

To me the QED Special 218 soap helped me breath better when I was having a cold/allergy problems. Nothing like going from not smelling to smelling nothing but pine forest!

Noxzema cleansing cream.
No joke - it's almost identical in consistency to Molle.

Not a scent for everyday use, but inexpensive and has menthol and camphor.

I'm home sick as well. I also went through the process of selecting products with no sense of smell to speak of.

I decided to go with Cyril Salter Indian Sandalwood cream, followed by Alt Innsbruck AS. The menthol in the Alt Innsbruck is gorgeous.

I may not be able to smell it, but I sure can feel it !
