Coffee grounds over ice cream?

Coffee grounds over vanilla ice cream used to be one of my favorite desserts.

My cat could not be trusted for a second when I made it.

He also would stick his head into a coffee cup with with half and half.

Any other desserts topped with coffee?

I can see how a light dusting of espresso fine ground beans would taste good. Would the coarser grinds stick in the teeth?

I also used to grind fresh coffee and put it on ice cream. I cannot remember where I heard about doing that... possibly the Frugal Gourmet, but I have been doing that now every time I eat vanilla ice cream. It is very good.

Shakey-and-twitchy would seem to be a good choice for a user name for you!

I'm going to withhold judgment till I try it. I think I will go for an espresso grind.

A little bit of ground espresso in chili...like a tablespoon full in a whole kettle/pot....is good too. Try it sometime.

i wondered about that. one day i was at a coffee shop and they had chocolate covered beans in a candy dispenser. they were very good!! can you eat regular beans? or were these somehow different?
ice cream, with a dusting of fine ground coffee, and just a drizzle of chocolate fudge sound very good.

Hmmm I'm going to try that. I also on occasion put yellow mustard on my vanilla ice cream. I know I know it sounds disgusting...but the taste.......... :)

is as far as I'll go for coffee bean in sweets.

I've made my own coffee flavored hard candy. I take a standard candy recipe and add 2-3 tablespoons of instant coffee ( it works in this case ) as soon as I start cooling it to pour it. I also eat chocolate covered coffee beans, Tiramisu ( the lady fingers in the bottom are soaked in espresso ) but I've never thought of actually putting powdered coffee beans on stuff.

I may have to make a batch of the hard candy to take to the NYC meet-up this fall...

A traditional Affagato is a shot of espresso over vanilla gelato. We use homemade vanilla ice-cream with a good shot of coffee from an Aeropress. Amazing dessert!

going to get some vanilla ice cream on the way home tonight. I can't tolerate caffeine anything after 3PM, so I will do this with the sweet marias decaf I roast for my wife. Even my daughter might like this one.

see? just like this.. i have had these and they were very good. but whats the difference in an espresso bean and a regular coffee bean?

Espresso beans are roasted much darker than 'normal' coffee beans. normal coffee beans get roasted anywhere from a blonde ( very light ) to a dark ( almost burnt ). Espresso beans are cooked past that until they are pretty much burnt. It gives them a much earthier & robust flavor.

There's nothing different with the actual bean, just in the length of roasting. Now an 'espresso grind' is almost powdery, where a 'drip grind' is larger, which is due to the difference in time, temperature & method of brewing. Espresso is fast, hot & under pressure where a drip brewer is cooler, slow & water flows through the grinds instead of being forced through so the water has more time to extract flavor from each ground.

Wife is eating Ben and Jerry's Bonnaroo Buzz. It is coffee and malted ice cream with whiskey carmel swirls and toffee pieces. You guys may like it.
