What's new

Coffee blending

So, I'm working my way through sweet marias sampler pack, and I must say, I'm very pleased with the different types of coffee.

This morning, I had some 2 week old beans in the grinder, but it wasn't enough to make a full pot. So I put in some of the new beans that I just had roasted the night prior for the heck of it. What an odd flavor!!! I could taste the new coffee, which was very fruity, but got a finish that was all stale coffee! So strange! Anyone ever try this?

I believe its another dimension on which to experiment, to find out which beans and roasts blend well with each other. I had one roast that was slightly under roasted and too fruity by itself, but when added to a darker roast of different beans at a ration of about 1/3 to 2/3, produced a better cup of coffee than either did by themselves.

Interesting. I'd like to try this... I think I should get to know my coffees and roasting a little more though.

For about three years now I've been stuck (quite happily) on a 50/50 blend of the Millstone brand Caramel Truffle and French Roast.

Edit: What is this "old beans" you speak of?? I don't understand:lol:

Millstone brand

Hey just because it's carried by the worlds largest retailer doesn't make it less enjoyable. At least to me.

Of all the coffee's that are available to me in a 10 minute drive, its some of my favorite. Now keep in mind that I drink coffee every day and I'm a working joe (pun intended) so I do have to keep my eye on the prices. I have a lot of things competing for my cash.:bored:

I understand. You said that you didn't know what old coffee was. You're drinking it! I didn't intend to condemn you for it. (p.s. - Millstone = Folger's)

There is a market for every coffee, and there is no "bad" coffee, as long as its consumption is helping someone else towards the front of the chain who relies on its sale for not only their quality of life, but for their very survival. (A very common situation)

Ah well, the "old coffee" question was just a joke. I only meant that I never have pound of coffee last more than about 10 days once I buy it.
