I'm wrapped around an axle and need help. I'm trying to decide between a Cobra Classic SE and an iKon Slant DE. I realize that they are somewhat apples and oranges however at the respective costs I can only choose one. I'm intrigued by both however have not used either one. What say you?
Build quality on the Cobra is no where near iKon's art quality hunk of stainless but the Cobra delivers a much better shave at least it did for me. Just look at the exodus going on with the I-slants as of late. I am going out on a limb and say this iKon razors are over priced pieces of stainless art. This is just my opinion so there will be no debate on my end. Now let the fireworks begin
I say wait to see what the Huntlee razors are all about
If you can't wait until then, well, based on what I have read, there's not a big difference between the iKon slant and the Merkur Slants (performance wise) so might as well get the Merkur, whereas the Cobra is a pretty unique razor (for now) and it is a fantastic shaver.
Don't know there is anything wrong with the i-Slant, but it wasn't for me. Then the Cobra Road Show came to town and I got the best shave I've ever had. I prefer the DE ritual, but I also intend owning a Cobra.
BTW, my go-to is an iKon OC, a great razor.
After nearly 8 months of testing everything under the sun I use only four razors now. My #1 Merkur 180 head on a UFO handle, #2 Merkur 37c #3 Cobra Classic #4 Gillette Ruby. Blade of choice for me is the Uk Personna. I found a machine shop guy local who is going to attempt to rework a 37C for me in the next couple of weeks to accept a regular handle if it goes well and replating is possible the razor should be a neat project.
Based on my own experience, these two razors have very different personalities. The Cobra is very aggressive and gives me the closest shaves of any of my razors. I would describe the Ikon Slant as a medium-aggressive razor (similar to the Merkur slants). I like them both, but not for the same reasons.
I own both. Gary H was kind enough to sell me a perfect Cobra. The razors are so different, the Cobra is aggressive but has never drawn blood, the ikon slant is mild to medium for me. The Cobra is great shaving my upper lip. The iSlant is beautiful and it shaves a little better than my Merkur slant. For your poll I selected the Cobra.
I've used Cobra and Merkur Slant and it's not even close....Cobra is superior for me in every aspect. I can get as close of a shave as I get with a straight razor, only in half the time. The slant was no better then Futur. Mind you I don't have the iKon...but can't imagine that it is much different in terms of performance from the Merkur Slant.
