Will do, am a complete newbie to DE shaving, so will want to start with some of the milder blades, perhaps (any recommendations?). Was thinking of starting with Astras. Will be using them with a Edwin Jagger DE89 (3D Diamond handle) and a vintage '40s/'50s Gillette Parat Rocket...

The Astras and DE89 sounds like a good choice.

Yes, Astras is a good place to start. Not sure exactly what you are getting, but if they are in there, also try Voskhod and Polsilver. Voskhod blades may be one of the smoothest blades out there. But it just all depends.
