Close to buying that Rooney 1/1 or 3/1

Hi all,

I know this thread pops up again and again. I have been reading all about brushes and I've had a lot of fun and learned a lot from reading these threads. People seem so satisfied with their Rooneys. I've been wetshaving for years but always used a cheap more with Williams soap. Now that I am DE shaving I bought a middle of the road (or low end?) pure Badger brush from Omega. I have a scrubby little boar that I just love - it is quite a small brush. It's nice to have two brushes and I enjoy the variety.

I am experimenting with creams mostly lately, but I know that I will end up doing a little of both. My Omega badger brush is great with creams, but it's a little bigger than I would like. I want to try using more different soaps in the future and I think this Rooney sounds perfect.

I decided some ago that I would get a really nice brush and I think I've decided on the Rooney 1/1. Aesthetically it is just so much more appealing to me than the 3/1. but I must admit that there is appeal for me in the 1/1, the 2/1, and the 3/1.

My question for you is . . . how long do you think I will be able to hold out??!! I would like to wait until after Christmas, since I really don't know what Santa will put under the tree this year. Another part of me thinks I will not last through the day.

All the best,

K

I think you are going to fold like an origami boulder.

enjoy the Rooney! and if you don't get it, enjoy going to get a Rooney!

For what it's worth I had a Rooney 1/1 in super and thought it was a great all around brush. Did well with soaps and creams. I recently got a 3/1 in finest... just like the A-1 commercials... Yeah, it's that important.

I am expecting to receive soon a silvertip 3/1 I purchased from a fellow member. The primary reason I chose this model is for the longer handle. I think I will prefer it to the short handled brushes which are dwarfed in my having bowl.

Why are you asking us how long you are going to hold out?

I'd say a 3/1 if you bowl lather, and a 1/1 if you face lather. The 1/1 handle is just a touch smaller than ideal for holding, but to me looks much more aesthetically pleasing than a 3/1 handle. Also, get the finest hair while it's still in existence .

The shorter loft on the 1/1 helps with soaps as well.

If you want the Rooney 1/1 buy it from truefitt & hill then use BB2009 when you check out, it will save you 20%.

OK, I folded like an origami boulder. Lasted the workday, then came home and ordered one. I guess if I think the handle is too short then I will learn to facelather :)

Thanks for sharing the fun.

haha what did you end up getting? sounds like the 1/1. I loved my 1/1 super. I sold it off to get a stubby 1 super recently. It went to a good home.

Yeah, I went with the 1/1. The aesthetic appeal of the whole package was just that much higher with style 1 for some reason for me. The size and scale just seem right.

Actually I had decided to get the 3/1, then at the last minute switched back to my instincts and ordered the 1/1. I'll post back with my impressions when it arrives!

Great score!

you'll be glad you didn't wait. what is the point in waiting anyhow?

I received my 3/1 super silvertip last week & love it. The handle (just under 2") is the perfect size for me. Anything smaller and I'd have a hard time holding onto it.

Btw where can a Canadian buy a finest 1/1????

I ordered from classicshaving.com. I know it seems silly to order to Europe from the US, for a product made in the UK . . .

Maybe I should have spent more time looking for a vendor on my side of the pond. Oh well, it's in the mail!

The 1-1 looks nicer but the 3-1 is easier to use for me, so I got both. The Supers are really great brushes, about the best value out there imo.

When you can't decide, get both! Wish I had done that. I love my 3/1 Super.
