Clip help for Esterbrook Double J

So I have a double-jeweled Esterbrook J pen. I think it's a quality pocket-worthy (cheap) pen. The only problem is that the clip is slightly bent outward, making leaning down a big problem when carrying in a shirt pocket. Does anyone have any experience on repairing these clips? Is the jewel removable and replaceable in order to take the clip of and bend it back into shape? Here's a picture of my problem. Notice how the end of the clip stands a a tiny bit off of the cap?

I usually put a round toothpick under the clip and rub the clip just below the toothpick, slide the toothpick up and down, always pushing right below and above the wood with your thumb. Keep doing that and it will go back down. Sometimes they don't take as the metal gets fatigued and soft.

Don't remove the jewel.

Does this slightly warm the soft metal in order to reform it?

No, by "rub" I meant pushing hard but also moving the pressure. It won't heat up or anything, try it, you'll see.

What? No Swiss Army knife? :yikes:

By the way, I've got an Estie with the same clip problem. I've tried this procedure, and it helped some, but I just can't get it tight. I'm not going to mess with it any longer as I don't want to bugger up what is otherwise a near-mint pen.

Hard to believe huh! And I was a boy scout in my formative years. I really should carry one at least in my car. Consider me chastised.
