Clicking here will only ignite SBAD....Custom Shavemac D01 Extreme Flat Top

Well I'm glad that I took a little longer lunch break than usual today. I got a message from Bernd at Shavemac on Monday that my custom shavemac had shipped. Sure enough Fedex showed up at my door and I got really excited. Couldn't wait to see my new beauty.

I decided to shell out on this one and hope that this brush becomes that 'one'..... sometimes I actually convince myself that is the case.

Well here she is in all her beauty out of the package. Cocobolo wood and nickel base. I ordered a 23mm with a 45mm loft, but my calipers tell me it is closer to 24/43mm. No biggy as a custom I expect there to be a little variation.

Enough drooling now, I'm off to shave and test it out. Can't wait

After buying the brush Loric replaced with his flat top and seeing the quality of the hair and density of these brushes I'm sure I'll be creating my own custom order one of these days. For now my wallet says that Lorics Blue Baby will have to do for awhile. Congrats on your new custom. Purdy.

Well, initial impression are that this is really, really high quality hair. This brush is just plain awesome. Super, super soft tips, scrubby, uber dense, and tons of backbone. Only downside is a lather hog, but that will be taken care of with proper loading.

Really like this purchase and hopefully it can stave off more SBAD for awhile. I know that this will certainly not be my last custom shavemac though. What service and Bernd was a pleasure to deal with.

I really can't wait till this thing breaks in and I get the feeling it may take a boar timeframe to do so.

Very nice! Like seeing all the custom D01 2-banders! I'll have to get one here someday as well, but I'm not sure what I'd go with. Too many excellent brushes out there I want! :biggrin1:

Do you think it lathers soap faster than other brushes? I feel like mine does. It seems to explode out of it. Though I worry this is just a placebo effect. It loads it faster than anything else I own thit is indisputable, but I feel like it also makes better lather, faster.

Sorry for stealing your thunder with the pics, but its such a beautiful brush I HAD to clean up the photo to drool over. Its not pro, but I think it does the brush more justice this way. Again sorry for cherry picking your photo.

I'll have to give it more latherings to know if what you say carries. I just used a valobra shave stick tonight, so I'll have to see how it loads from cella or MWF tomorrow to tell.

No problem on the photo. My camera sucks anyway and I never was really good with photo editing. It is definitely so much better looking in the real.

I cant quite work out the exposure/flash on my camera. I think I have learned more about fixing photos than taking them since I purchased it. Though to bring out the nice red in your brush I had to pump the numbers up way to high.

The cocobolo is a thing of beauty. This handle is also by far my heaviest in my rotation. Quite a bit of heft - I like it! :thumbup1:

SBAD should naturally led to CAD (Camera Acquisition Disorder). I mean why wouldn't you want to show off your brushes!? :w00t:

"Got Shoes?"
A fab-looking brush.

Reminds me of a song:

Here come old flat-top
It come lathering up slow-ly
It got coco-bo-lo
It makes lots of lather

It has nickel down be-low its seat.

Got to make good lather cause he's so hard to please...

Put some lather, right now.
Over me.

This is the song that makes me hate Aerosmith. I always hear it starting up when listening to the classic rock station... then they go into the Aerosmith version and I'm so disappointed. Nothing against Aerosmith, but their cover of this song is just such a step down from the original in my ears. Your version's better. :thumbup1:

Used it for a second time today. This brush is perfect. What's that, do I hear SBAD finally dying out....

THAT is an amazing looking brush. I wonder how Bernd manages to get the tips perfectly flat without snipping them. Given the wonderful softness of the tips described by Joe, there is NO way that knot was ever sheared. It appears to be a labor intensive process. The wood grain is gorgeous and the silver ring accent on the base has been a Shavemac feature I've always admired. Congratulations on a beautiful, beautiful brush. (P.S. my 177 is also a lather hog, but its DENSE cloud like knot is in a class by itself.) Enjoy.

Based on the softness of the tips, it most certainly is not snipped. I bet it is quite a labor intensive process and it took Bernd 3 weeks after I placed my order to get it shipped. Worth the wait for sure. Don't know how he does it, but am very happy he provides this service.

The handle is the heaviest of any I own and I like that quite a bit. Solved the density and lather hog issues last night by just loading more product. Certainly took a lot more water then I'm used to, but provided plenty for 4 passes.
