Cleaning Feather Artist Club SS straight razor

I own a pair of artist club SS straight razor and I heard that they need to be thoroughly cleaned every 6 months. So I heard that you would place them in a pot of boiling water and leave them there for 15 minutes. After throwing out the disposable blades of course. But my concern was that the handle is plastic (black). Wouldn't placing the razor in a pot of boiling water destroy the razor?:blush:

Never heard of such a thing, I would not drop a razor in boiling water for 15 minutes.

However, you can remove the slide plate and give it a scrubbing with soapy warm water and a toothbrush.

These are the from my Feather AC RG instructions in regards to boiling:

Features:
The razor handle is a special polymer that has exceptional heat and chemical resistant properties to withstand temperatures as high as 275˚F (135˚C).

Perform sterilization by either of the following methods:
(1) Sterilization by boiling
(2) Sterilization by ethanol

But I did not read that you NEED to boil it. I just disassemble my Feather, clean the inside and the blade with a quick rinse and let it try before putting it back together. If that is a good way to maintain it, I don't know. I only have been using my Feather AC RG for a short time.

Yeah I think boiling is a little overboard but to each his own. Open it up, Scrubbing Bubbles w/ a toothbrush, reassemble and insert a fresh blade. I do this each time I change the blade and mine looks brand new.

I just give mine a good scrubbing whenever I take it apart, then I rinse it under hot tap water. Never had any problems, and have been doing this for almost 4 years. I've even used a dab of toothpaste followed by a scrubbing with an old toothbrush. Doing this not only removes any gunk, but it also gives a nice shine., again no problems doing this.

No need to boil it, I have a bunch of these razors and I do just like most here, open up, clean with hot water and toothbrush and put them back again. The instructions are really more for barbers who use these razors on different people.

Thanks guys for the reply! Good thing I didn't boil it. I will clean it with a tooth paste and a tooth brush.
