Cleaned up a Leader!

So I picked up an F.W. Engles Leader for a really good price on eBay a couple months ago. Here it is after I received it and gave it a test shave:

So today I finally got around to cleaning it up. Started with a dremel and some polishing compound to get rid of the pitting and rust spots. Then took it through some hand sanding with 1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500 grit paper. Finally I polished it up with some Mothers Mag polish. Looking mighty pretty now! Now it's all boxed up and ready to send off for a good honing!

Wow, looks awesome!! I too am just getting into "fixing up" old blades. I've been using red & green jeweller's rouge with Mother's mag polish as well, but I need to get some high-grit paper like you have. I'll be curious to hear your impressions of the shave after you get it back from honing!

Thanks, it shaved pretty well when I received it, though I have no idea if the previous owner had honed it. But after dremeling and sanding it, it definitly needs it now.

Most excellent! Did you polish the scales too, and if so, how?

I did use a bit of the polish compound on a soft felt wheel with the dremel. Not the same tighter felt cone I used on the blade.

Send my way for proper disposal.

I'll get right on that... I hear it's a pretty bad shaver anyway, I just plan on using it to open letters.

FWEs are fantastic razors. Enjoy it.

Yea, I've heard great things about tem so when I saw this one with a low BIN price I couldn't pass it up. Looked like a great razor in need of some cleaning and it turns out I was right.

Thanks! Really looking forward to giving it a spin when I get it back. I'll be sure to provide some updated glamour shots and impressions :)
