OK, I will stand up and say that I really wish we would dump. The imperial system for metrics. We were supposed to go metric in the 70s,but it never happened. I measure my coffee in grams. If it is good enough for coffee, it is good enough for everything.

There. Now that the question of metrics vs normal measurement is cleared up, my favorite strop width is barely wide enough to take the entire blade, about 2-3/4". Over 3" is awkward and cupping can be hard to control, even with three chicago screws. Narrower, well, it just doesn't feel right to me. Plenty of guys do like narrower strops, though, and certainly they work just as well. Generally, they will be cheaper, too. Mostly it is just a personal choice, whatever blows your kilt up.
