So I have been thinking about a clay pipe, I love the churchwarden style and the clay ones seem very cheap compared to a briar pipe. What are the pro/cons of a clay pipe and what brands are the best?
I was reading that historically when your clay pipe was all stained and plugged and wouldn't draw they would stick them in a fire and it would burn them out and return them to white unstained clay.
thats actually kind of cool if it really works...so only real maintenance on it is to set it in the fireplace and forget about it....well that and not dropping it

Well for the price I think it might be worth a try
I keep a clay in my desk at work just for that. Lately, though, I have beem grabbing the mini meerI've got a few clays. one about 7 inches long that smokes pretty well and a 4 inch thing for quick 5 minute smokes at work. Good for trying new tobaccos without ghosting the pipe. The 7 inch gouda from pipeshoppe was my got to pipe for a while, I liked that it required basically no maintenance. Some times I'm too lazy to clean up a pipe after I'm done.
