Classic Edge?

I am looking to buy a restored vintage razor, and have found a few from Classic Edge Shaving that I love. I was wondering if anyone has had good or bad dealings with them, and how do you rate the "shave readiness" of their blades, if you can? Any blade size, grind recomendations? Thanks you for your input (or output)!

I have never shaved with an edge from classic edge. As far as blade size recomendations? Everyone likes something different. I would start off with a round point for sure 5/8-6/8. Grind does not really matter much for the shave, it is a preference, hollows give more feedback and may be more forgiving. I like hollow grinds, wedges don't agree with me.

You can always pick up a Whipped Dog deal, comes shave ready and will include everything needed.

Thanks Alfredo! Whipped dog has some great deals! I like being able to pick the blade from Classic Edge, and they appear to be in much better condition too. What is the easiest blade to hone and strop for a newb? Thanks!

No doubt, CE has some very nice blades.

I find larger blades are easier to hone, they lay flatter on the stone. Stropping does not seem to make much difference.

I would not learn to hone on a "nice" blade, you will create bevel and spine issue 9 times out of 10. I would also recommend trying out different edges from different finishers before spending money on your finisher.

I've bought several items from Classic Edge and couldn't be happier. Two of which were a 6/8 Boker and 6/8 Weck (vintage) razor and both came with a really clean and sharp edge. I have pretty thick facial hair and Phil's edge had no issues cutting it. Remember too that Classic Edge offers a second honing with every razor purchased.

Send Phil an email if you have any questions regarding some of the vintage razors you're interested in. I've sent Phil more emails than I care to count since I discovered his store and he's answered all of them.

Good luck! :biggrin1:
