Claiming Mint Condition

Please look at all the pictures of this Gem razor on the Bay. Seller claims its in mint condition. Is it me or an optical illusion.

EDIT: Auction is still live

I'd say it is not mint, but I'd also say that while posting an eBay item number for a live auction is somewhat more classy, it is probably not an acceptable substitute for a link to a live auction

We all know what "mint" means on da Bay unless they are referring to the aromatic herb, it means hey it may be rusted, bent and dinged, but I rinsed it off with tap water before I took this picture.

Caveat emptor!

This reminds me of a PM I received on B&B after posting that I'm looking for a Rhodium plated US Gillette Executive. I received a PM from someone stating that they have one that is MINT that is their favorite in their collection but that they might be willing to give it up for the "right" price. So I asked to see pictures and I got a PM with four BLURRY pictures of a cased US Gillette Executive that I can tell is not mint but IS one that sold on B&B a year ago with super sharp photos and was listed as Good to Very Good. I mean seriously... blurry pictures on B&B and trying to resell an item for 50% more than you bought it for is one thing but claiming MINT. What a JERK!!!!
:thumbdown

The wording is funny: "It is in Superb Original Condition." My wife just said I am not in superb original condition and I am far younger than our subject razor. :001_rolle

I purchased an injector that was advertised as mint, never used. It came with the original blades and case. When I looked at the blades you could see the blank and one used blade in the dispenser. I never trust E-Bay sellers on descriptions. Most E-Bayers don't know what they have, they are trying to make a buck.

As "Coma" mentioned, even here in the B/S/T section there are claims of mint and near mint with cellphone pictures attached. I'll take the zero on those offers. :thumbdown

I'd call it "good", but it might clean up to "excellent" - definitely not "mint".

I'd buy that for a dollar.

Too many eBay sellers are borderline scam artists. I don't necessarily think they mean to be but it is the attitude that eBay breeds. Too many sellers are more concerned with how they can make their item look/sound the best to draw a premium price. I think many fail to realize what harm they often do in the hobby/collectible sales especially.

Not mint! But, to the seller's credit, pictures are sufficiently detailed.

The word "mint" should be used very sparingly in auctions.

Returning to a minor point that came up earlier, is it a violation of board policy to put the item number for a live auction into a post? I've done this myself and saw no harm in it. I thought the idea was to avoid actual clickable links, which would link the live item to this board.

I've actually had the ignorance of eBay sellers work to my advantage, when they didn't realize what they had, or how nicely it would clean up. That doesn't mean they wouldn't scam me if they could, though. It does irritate me when they describe something as unused when it clearly isn't, or even when there is no way for them to be sure of that.

Posting a link to a live auction is forbidden according to B&B's Terms of Usage. IMHO posting the auction number and stating which auction site it is on isn't much different.

Since we've all had a look at the item in question I went ahead and removed the auction number from the OPs post since the auction is still live.
