What's new

CIA dude blows some whistles.

I've already came to terms with the fact that the government at anytime for any reason can and will spy on me.

true or not.

so it don't bother me at all.

True or not? I believe it is. Think about the technology that you are "allowed to have" and how amazing that is... then multiply it by like 100. That is probably still not even close to what exists. the stuff that he says around the 7 min mark... just not cool.

Well when it comes to being spied on... I leave enough digital bread crumbs that I'm sure many countries have knowledge what what I'm up to, a whole lot of mundane things, B&B, amazon, facebook... I am not important enough to spy on unless it is another CAT dealer and even then I'm enough of a small fish that even then corporate espionage isn't a big deal for me... But here is the thing, I've heard (will do research to cite later ) that about 80 different terrorist plots have been foiled from stuff like this. At the risk of sounding a bit crass, if you don't want governments to know what you are doing then get off the grid and use paper money and a bartering system.

folks have been saying the same thing for decades.

as I said I"m not concerned. if big brother wants to listen in on my calls, track my internet movement, set up cameras on every street corner to follow me then so be it. there is nothing I can do about it. and not going to loose sleep over it.

what you said about technology: "what we are allowed to have is not even close to what exists", well i'm willing to bet his little whistle blowing does not even scratch the surface of what the government is actually doing.

I've done pretty well for myself with big brothers eye watching so far.

I agree with all of what you guys have said. I'm just saying that it is an interesting interview... and I am not so sure why Americans as a whole feel like they are not entitled to privacy. :001_huh:

As my dad always told me..if you have nothing to "hide"..then you shouldnt worry about whos listening or taking notes about you...

If a person wants privacy in something, don't put it out there. If they really were following everyone in America, Canada, whereever, you would need to double the population just to cover all the work that would need to be done to do that. Heck Google has a record of all the stuff I look up, and that doesn't bother me, means that when they sell that information more products I want will find their way to me.

yeah, but that is not the point. the point is that it is a constitutional violation and nobody cares. We are going backwards. Nowadays, the constitution is just a piece of paper behind a piece of glass on 700 Pennsylvania Avenue.

“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
― Benjamin Franklin.

I guess he didn't know what he was talking about either.

Well that still only takes you so far, unless they really want to count how many times I look up the words like safety razor, big boobs, or The Oatmeal. Before all this went down it was just allied countries spying on other countries citizens and passing on the information. If the government decides to go after me for something, it will be on issues about First Nations and how I feel about mistreatment over the last few hundred years.

We are getting a touch to political though, might be best to curb it so the thread isn't locked.

I am quite surprised that he had that opinion considering European history of the first half of the last century.

I was only talking about the content of the video to the link I posted. If the thread gets locked, that's just censorship. Are we not allowed to talk about current events? I must have missed that in the rulebook....

If they counted how many times I googled safety razor or big boobs, Im pretty sure the computers would meltdown View attachment 344267

The current events are fine Chris, a few posts were getting close to pulling politics in, I just want to make sure we don't go there.

With respect sir, the video I posted was all I was discussing. In addition to that, I feel (even if others do not) that it is worth at the very least, acknowledging. These are things that are happening right now, and they affect all of us, whether we want to turn a blind eye to it or not.

I am not trying to make it about politics. If anyone feels that they would like to constructively join the conversation, please do so. If you are posting just to chime in your two cents without even taking the time to view the interview or create an intelligent response, please just dont even comment. I would prefer not to have the thread shut down and locked up on the day (within hours actually) of it being started. I posted it for the purpose of intelligent reasonable dialogue, and to create discussion. Although it is in the "barbershop" it appears I may have chosen the wrong forum. My apologies.

I disagree. No one is talking about politics. American History and current events are not political, they are facts. Politics are rhetoric, at best.

I get what you are saying.

I just don't think there is anything we can do about it.

I protect myself from the common criminals and do my best to keep my privacy as best I can: locks on my doors, anti-virus software, self defense, pulling the shades at night, always being aware of my surroundings, ect..ect..

and that makes me feel secure and feel like I have my privacy.

but if the "super criminal" wants to invade my privacy and see something i'm doing or take something I have then I'm powerless to stop them and more than likely won't have a clue until they have already done it.

The main reason I'm not concerned about this news and this guy is because i'm not surprised by it at all.

I also don't think that this guy and his news will change anything.

I get what you are saying.

I just don't think there is anything we can do about it and this is the mentality that renders us "average joes" powerless.

I protect myself from the common criminals and do my best to keep my privacy as best I can: locks on my doors, anti-virus software, self defense, pulling the shades at night, always being aware of my surroundings, ect..ect..as the majority of us do. it is only human nature to try and protect yourself.

and that makes me feel secure and feel like I have my privacy. but do you?

but if the "super criminal" wants to invade my privacy and see something i'm doing or take something I have then I'm powerless to stop them and more than likely won't have a clue until they have already done it I feel like you are only powerless once you give up your power. maybe it is just me, but I dont feel like anyone on this planet has anymore right to anything then the next. fighting for what you believe in is what this country is founded upon, and I dont think that should ever be cast aside. I feel like it is more important now than it was back in 1776.

The main reason I'm not concerned about this news and this guy is because i'm not surprised by it at all.I am not surprised by it either, but that it is what concerns me.

I also don't think that this guy and his news will change anything. sadly, this is most likely true. I would be surprised if this guy is a blip on the radar by next week. We have all become incredibly complacent. :glare:
