Chubby

I'm working on a solid Brush AD at the moment. More than anything else in my shave den for some reason but I had a question.

The Simpsons Chubby brushes seem to be held in high regard and are definitely a little spendy. I was wondering what the deal is with these because Silvertip is supposed to be the king but The Chubbies I've seen were $60-80 more and only best badger. Please world, enlighten me as to why I feel the need to purchase both a silver tip and a Chubby!

Got me :001_smile

Because Chubbie in Best rock. I have three of them (see avatar) and absolutely love them. They are by far my favorite brushes.

Maybe because they are packed so densely? There's a lot of badger in those brushes. I have a Chubby 2 and think it's a great brush.

I use Chubby 1 in super and Duke 3 in two band. If I would have bought them today I would choose the two band first. However, both are great brushes and to me the question is which one to buy first.

If you buying both a silvertip and best badger Chubby, you do not. Simpsons best badger may not be everyone's cup of tea, but in my 4 Simpsons best, not one is a stinker. Simpsons best is an excellent grade of hair. It is the three band silvertip that I would caution against as it adds nothing substantial to the benefits of a Chubby in best. Now, if you considered a Chubby in 2-band silvertip, that I would consider-BUT YOU STILL DO NOT NEED BOTH a Chubby in best and in 2-band!!

Of course I don't neeeed both haha! I think I'll shoot for a chubby first since it seems like somewhat of an obligatory brush if you want to call yourself a wet shaver. If my AD continues then I'll rock the two band silver tip. And if it continues yet, I'll get back to working on some more Semogue boars

The Chubby 1 in Best is much denser than the one in 2-band Super. They are both great brushes and it would just be your preference for which brush works best for you. Good luck.

I have a Chubby 1 in Best Badger. I think that its price point is related to the hair density of its knot. I find the Chubby 1 Best to have some stiffness, no floppyness with its tips having a little bit of scrubbyness but not the scratchyness of a Pure Badger knot. I do not have any Simpson silvertips, but have a Merkur Vision Silvertip (3 band) that has very soft tips (no scrubbyness) but less backbone than my Chubby 1 Best. If tip softness is most important to you, I suggest the silvertip knot, while a Best knot would have more scrubbyness if that is what you want. My granddaughter keeps eyeing my Merkur Silvertip for her makeup because of its softness, but was shocked when I told her what one would cost.

For a less expensive alternative to the Chubby Best knot, I have found my TGN Finest XH knot to also have good backbone with some scrubbyness, but no scratchyness, like the Chubby 1 Best.

Simpson brushes are gorgeous works of art really. Entirely made in the UK "Isle Of Man", lathe turned handles, densely packed knots, etc.

You will have an entirely different experience with Super vs Best in a Chubby. The Super offers softer tips than the best hair and tend to be a smidge more dense due to more of the finer Super hairs packed into the knot. You won't go wrong with a Chubby, they are some of the finest brushes made. I have all three sizes and love them so!

The best hair simpson got now is so good. Soft and nice backbone, i got a chubby3 in best and think its softer than my mühle silvertip.

I've always had a fondness for chubby's (no pun intended). My Chubby 3 2-band and 3-bands see more use than any other brush in my rotation.

I was disappointed in my Chubby 2 Best. It had too much loft for my liking and I found it on the scratchy side. Good luck, I hope yours turns out for you.
